Discovering the Colmar Old Town on 6 January 2026 was like walking through a living postcard. Although staying in the nearby area of Horbourg, visiting this charming town near the German border was a definite highlight of my trip. The Old Town is a treasure trove of vintage architecture, featuring beautifully preserved half-timbered houses that reflect its rich dual heritage. Meandering through the cobblestone streets and seeing the colorful facades felt incredibly nostalgic and peaceful. Even in the winter chill, the town radiates a magical glow that makes every corner feel like a scene from a storybook. It is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking history and timeless beauty in the heart of Alsace.
Visiting this town was a dream for me. fortunately, I did it !! This city is really stunning. Its designs, buildings, shops cofes, restaurants and all vibes are so perfect and it will guarantee that your day will be super amazing. I came by train from Strasbourg, spent the whole day in Colmar before I go back to Strasburg. I enjoyed every single moment in this town and I recommend it for all visitors to France.
Beautiful old town in Alsace, France. February is a great time of the year for visiting. It’s not crowded and you can enjoy in the town. There are plenty of restaurants, stores and charming lil’ hotel’s

The old town of Colmar is free to enter though some experiences need to buy separate tickets. The old houses make the town charming and colourful. However, for us, it is overrated, touristic and pricey. A short visit is fine.
We visited during the first weekend of Advent, and the crowds were extremely large. Things seemed to have quieted down around 19:30 as most of the tour buses left by that point. I would highly recommend visiting in the evening (as Christmas lights are really atmospheric and nice) and the crowds are more manageable. The old town is really charming and I'm glad I was able to visit. Would like to come here sometime during the summer.
Old city so nice, quiet in february, not many people visiting but the good thing is you can find a place in the restaurant or cafeteria to enjoy some local dishes as tarte flambe ,for example. In two hours ,you see it all. Most restaurants open at 7 pm, so don t be hungry 🙂until that hour.
