Avis
if you’re visiting Monet’s House and Garden try and make a stop here too! it’s a museum dedicated to Monet and has two of his pieces. it’s only €5.50 for a ticket and very easy to go through. you can spend as much or as little time and the building itself feels very quaint and serene.
Though Google map indicate it is free admission, kindly note that it isn't free. 5 or 6 euro per adult. The art museum isn't big. It's rather quiet as many people not wanting to pay the admission fees.
Very nice museum where you can admire some original Monet painting. Accessible for wheelchair with elevator. Nice staff inside.
If you are visiting Monet's garden in Giverny, it is worth stopping off in the nearby small town of Vernon to see this small museum. It boasts one Monet waterlilies painting and many pictures by the American followers of Impressionism who started visiting the area at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, as well as some eclecticly-themed collections of paintings eg 'children' and 'domestic animals'.
A perfect museum experience. Dozens of beautifully displayed works of superb art. Excellent light, not too crowded, great permanent collection, great exhibition. Beautiful neighborhood.
This is a lovely, whimsical museum. I enjoyed the art & thought the pieces were thoughtfully arranged. Sometimes it's the small unexpected places that bring you the most joy.
Great collection of art including various impressionist paintings and quite a few cats
Superb, small-town museum. Rarely frequented but with some real treasures inside. These include three A-List Claude Monet paintings--including a rare, tondo form Nympheas of 1908 and a glorious seascape. Even better, with so few visitors, especially off-season, one can easily have this entire museum all to oneself and commune with Uncle Claude all alone for 45 minutes or so. Where else does that happen in French Impressionist collections?? There are also several rare, beautiful Bonnard landscapes here (executed when he lived in the region), a rare late Sisley lithograph, and an eerie, terrifying Felix Vallotton landscape dated 1924 and well-worth a detour to get visually very frightened. This fine little collection also contains some great, striking, sensuous, and malevolent Paul Jouve exotic animal works also very rarely seen and worth close admiration. The Blanche Hoschede-Monet Museum is within easy walking distance of the main Vernon train station served from the Paris Gare St. Lazare (allow one hour of travel using direct trains from Paris to Rouen After a museum visit, treat yourself to a great lunch at the adjacent cafe/restaurant La Belle Equipe. The Cafe de France, on Vernon's main street leading from the Gare to the great Seine bridge, also serves beautiful, perfectly correct lunch fare including a magnificent Salade de Gisiers, very fine chef's own pates, and wondrous lamb. So go to Vernon already!
