Absolutely breathtaking!! When you're in La Grave and/or staying at the "camping de la Meije" this is a must see. The gondala takes you almost all the way to the top at a hight of 3200 meters. They make one stop along the way where you switch tracks which is more green and has a couple of nice hammocks to enjoy the view. The view at the top is the most breathtaking and they have a lovely cabin that serves great pizza and other things. And thats also the only thing at the top, no over the top tourist attractions or information signs. There are also no wires or barriers to keep you from falling over the edge which is of course dangerous for young children but it gives a really nice feeling of actually being on a mountain, not just some tourist attraction. They have an ice cave too which is a must see a well, filled with beautiful sculptures which you can see for only €6,- I
We had an amazing day going up the cable car and visiting the mountain and seeing the wonderful views, snow and glaciers. The staff were very friendly and answered all our questions. The ride was enjoyable and we did it in 2 stages. We got the first up at 8 thirty and got off at the bottom station and walked to the lake and refuse, then went to the top where we had lunch and visited the beautiful ice tunnel in the glacier and admired the views. Yes, it is expensive but we thought for the whole day it was good value for money.
Beautiful views and a very long ride to the top (~40 min) which gives you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery. It stops mid-air when some of the cabins reach the top or the bottom so that people can get on/off, which leaves you hanging at one place for a few minutes.
Breathtaking views. The climb is impressive and not so busy when we were there (even for summer). Nevertheless, 31€/p (even for a 30min. ascension) seems a bit pricy… Staff was friendly and I recommend this activity for your trip in the French alps.
Freeride paradise? no just Freedom! The resort is hold by local mountain guides and give you huge playground for freeriders. You must respect the mountain because the danger is not far. You have daily a report from the mountain guides at the botom of the lift. They will give you all informations you need to enjoy your journey. Respect their job, respect the mountain and respect the other nature lovers. This place is unique!
Great cable car service to take you to the top of meije. Staff was fun and helpful, and the lines were short (it was the start of summer when we visited so that may be a factor) all of the cabins were clean and comfortable
Worth the ride with or without skis.
Very pleasant cable car tour up to 2400 meter and then to 3200m. Great views. Nice ice cave. We walked back from 3200m to 2400m station in 2.5 hours.
