Fascinating history of a historically influential man. The tour is en francais but you can follow with a translated booklet. The wine tasting was a bit meh but a nice way to break up the tour. If you’re not from France you probably never heard of Michel de Montaigne but after the tour you’ll be glad you did.

There was a great welcome by the people on the reception and they were very helpful and informative. I enjoyed this visit. I went in the tower but not the tour of the Château because it was in French. My wife understands French and she enjoyed it. I relaxed on a bench looking at the lovely Château. There are plenty of games in the grounds for kids of all ages to play. It was well worth the visit.

We did the castle tour and saw the tower without a guide. The castle was super worth it, it has an amazing private collection from the madam who used to own it and wanted to show her grandiosity. We got the English tour and the guide knew a lot about the property. Really worth it if you like seeing private collections. The tower tour is probably worth it, Otherway there are a few objects in the tower and a little pamphlet, but I’m sure there are so many stories that we missed by doing the self tour.

Great to be able to visit a castle that really feels like home. An excellent guide too. We were really impressed. Highly recommended.

Great guide (in French). Michel de Montaigne was one of the most influential renaissance authors and was a true Renaissance man in every sense of the word. He was a beacon of light in a time of religious conflict. His tower adjoins a more recently built chateau. Ponies and chestnut trees surround. A wine tasting can accompany the visit. The living and study quarters of Montaigne are a very interesting visit.

Plenty of atmosphere, very quiet and peaceful

The chance to see Montaingne’s tower, where he invented the essay, cannot be missed. One of the greatest thinkers of the western world. Lovely grounds and a wine tasting, too? Perfect afternoon.

Beautiful castle. There are limited tours available, so if you do want to go inside it’s worth checking times before you visit. If you are happy to walk around the outside it only costs €3 and you can get some great pictures!
