We are currently staying here. There is a music festival that is right in front of the hotel. Blaring metal music until midnight. We were never told of this in advance. DO NOT STAY HERE AT THE END OF JUNE!!! Coming from the United States, this is like a best western 2/3 star hotel. I have videos of the screaming music. Again we were never told of this in advance. Imagine a rock concert right outside your window. Other bad things: -breakfast is awful. They repour old coffee that no one uses back into the main pot. So you get other people’s coffee. In America, that would be a health code violation. Again I have proof. The room service man with the man bun is nasty. Our rooms air conditioning went out. They tried to make us move rooms under suspicious circumstances. They will only give you 2 water bottles a day. And they take them if you get more than 1. Don’t stay here. We had a great stay in this iconic building right in the heart of Bordeaux. There were plenty of staff who were all exceptionally friendly, helpful, and certainly went above and beyond what was expected. The high level of English speaking was gratefully appreciated although I was humoured as I attempted my school level French. The room was lovely, as were all of the communal areas. It felt like a tranquil Oasis that you could step out of, straight into the bustle of the town. Overall, a fantastic stay.
Gorgeous hotel across a square from the equally beautiful opera house. We stayed one night before our Viking river cruise and were so tired from our train trip we ordered room service for dinner. It was superb and really reduced the tension from the trip. The check-in was pleasant and we were able to get the upgrade from amex platinum as well as use the related credit toward the room service dinner. The suite was beautiful and clean. The hotel has a small gym which I was grateful to use. In addition to the two high end restaurants on site, there is an adjacent tea room good for lunch and a delightful chocolate shop. Oh also the breakfast buffet is fabulous.
The hotel’s layout was not only disorienting but also inconvenient. The bathroom in our room lacked a toilet, which was located in a separate room, and was devoid of a sink for handwashing after using the toilet. Consequently, we had to traverse two rooms to wash our hands each time we utilized the bathroom. We had never encountered this situation before and were quite surprised. Furthermore, to access the shower, we had to ascend a substantial step to enter the bathtub, which posed a significant challenge in maintaining our balance. During a shower, the shower head failed to remain securely fastened, causing it to fall onto my wife. Consequently, we had to hold the shower head in our hands while showering. I would not recommend the Bordeaux Intercontinental hotel. This experience was unexpected, as we had had exceptional stays at the Intercontinental in Barcelona and Rome.
Beautiful hotel, expensive room, but the maximum lamp light in the room at night is dimmer than a drinks club where no one wants to be seen. Unacceptable. It is not possible to read a book in the room with the low wattage, or lumens in LED speak. And there are 6 table and floor lamps. Each lamp output seems equivalent to a candle. It’s as though there were a power outage. It doesn’t even cost that much to have regular lumen LED lights, so why make the guests suffer through that? I really didn’t plan on bringing my own bulbs (as I have done on Caribbean islands) for a luxury hotel room in Bordeaux!
As an IHG member, from another hotel somewhere and sometime, I was a bit surprised by some of our experiences at the hotel. It’s a lovely building with a beautiful location and very nice rooms (based on the one we had).||Our problems started when we arrived from our river cruise before 10am and were told, not surprisingly, our room wasn’t ready. What we were told was that it would be ready by 3pm and they would ring if it was ready beforehand. Our luggage was kept aside in the foyer area. We were back in the area around 1pm and popped into the hotel to see if the room was ready. It wasn’t as housekeeping hadn’t attended to it at that stage, 3 hours after we had arrived. At 2.15 am we were very weary and popped back to check on the room situation. Housekeeping still hadn’t got there so we popped out for a short stroll to cool down. Our luggage was still sitting in the foyer. At 2.45pm we popped back and asked again. Room still not ready so reception rang housekeeping who said 15minutes at the latest (i.e 3pm). We sat in a very small waiting area where there was a fresh drink container. I tried for a drink but it was empty. At 3.10pm I asked again about our room - 10 minutes after the absolute maximum time it would be ready. Not ready but would ring housekeeping! A few minutes later we got our keycards. Almost 5.5hours after we arrived. I’m glad I’m an IHG member! So, we went to our room and waited 15 minutes for our luggage. Nothing so my wife went down to get our carry-on bags and caused chaos because that was the job of staff to deliver bags. I suspect we would still be waiting for them a day later if she hadn’t gone down. But that’s not all. The guy who brought the bags noticed we needed a second suitcase stand and said, I believe, he would ask housekeeping to deliver one. Thirty hours later and were still waiting.||Breakfast in the brasserie was nice but for some reason the young staff members on duty didn’t seem to see our used dishes and
Arguably one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in—across rooms, service, and location, it delivers on every front. The location is absolutely perfect—right in the heart of Bordeaux, making it incredibly easy to walk everywhere. From charming streets and boutiques to restaurants and key landmarks, everything feels just steps away, which makes exploring the city effortless and enjoyable. The hotel itself is stunning. The lobby is grand and elegant, setting the tone the moment you walk in. The top floor offers breathtaking views of the city—an experience in itself, especially overlooking the iconic opera house. Our room was exceptional. We had three balconies, two of which directly faced the incredible Grand Théâtre—it felt like having a front-row seat to one of Bordeaux’s most beautiful landmarks. Truly special. But what stood out the most was the service. Philippe at the concierge was simply unbelievable. He went above and beyond—helping us plan our day trips, recommending and booking wine tastings and restaurants, and even taking the time to fix my broken glasses (which had completely split into two!). That level of care and attention is rare, and it made our stay unforgettable. A world-class experience all around. Highly recommend.
We had the most delightful stay this past week at the hotel with our group. The room was exceedingly comfortable, and the staff most attentive to our every need. Our sincere thanks go to Mathilde, the breakfast hostess, who greeted us each morning with such cheer and graciously saw to it that we were always seated at a table with a most pleasing view. A special word of commendation as well for the young lady attending to room service, who unfailingly provided service of the highest order prompt, courteous, and ever so agreeable. These two young women are clearly devoted to their vocation, and it shows in all they do. We have greatly cherished our stay in Bordeaux
