0 stars really. As mentioned elsewhere in these reviews, Hertz seem to enjoy ripping off their customets with false damage claims. Collecting the car was slow, due to the queue, but a reasonably smooth process and we had no complaints about the car itself. Returning the car, however, and the aftermath, has been a nightmare. The long queue for car collection and nobody handling returns meant that I had to hand the key to a staff member dealing with a new rental and agree that all was well before heading for the massive airport queues. When I got off the plane, I had a damage assessment email from Hertz, with "Interior » Undefined bodyparts » Damaged" as the description and 4 photos of the undamaged outside of the car. Hertz customer services have replied to me today (7 days after I complained) to restate the terms of the rental, i.e. they can charge for damage. That's fair enough, but they need to tell me what the damage was and justify the cost. Also, there wasn't any when I returned the vehicle! In the meantime, they've charged my card without any evidence, and no repair estimates or invoices being presented. They seem to think they can do anything they like and we'll just have to put up with it. It's not a good way to promote your business Hertz!
Charge you the petrol fee + VAT when I returned it with tank full! Also I handed the vehicle in the same condition and I've been charged for some light damages at the back! (100€+) Beware they will scam you!
Yes I was scammed at Hertz Beziers. No damage on car when I left even took photos as evidence. Surprise surprise when Hertz inspected 3 hours later 2 scratches and 980 euro bill. Absolutely no response from Hertz, how could they respond when they know it’s a scam? Then 89 days after off hire I received a bill demanding the money. No option but to pay as my excess insurance cover expired at 90 days. It’s a neat scam, they only pick on Uk tourists and ones with external insurance, they always discover the damage when you are on the plane and they never answer any communication. Do you want to take the risk with this company? I have been with Hertz for 16 years as gold card member, will never use Hertz again. Highway robbery.
Beware. They will add SuperCover zero excess insurance without asking you. This is charged at x10 the price of a similar policy from a third party and in some cases doubles the cost of your rental. They will tell you it can’t be removed. I thought Hertz were a decent company, but after this experience I’ll be renting with more reputable providers, they’re the same as any other cheap rental company. I’d actually booked with Enterprise, but changed last minute - never again!
Warning. This branch of Hertz is deliberately defrauding customers. On pickup we noticed that the car had a chip in the windscreen that had been repaired. We didn’t record it as damage, as Hertz had already repaired it. However we took time stamped photos. Hertz then contacted us to say we needed to pay for the repair of this chip. Which was already repaired. I explained, sending in the time stamped photos. They have ignored this and are proceeding to charge me. This is absolutely fraud, because I am being charged for damage that was already there and is already repaired. There are other reports below of people being charged for damage that was clearly already done. I suspect the people who run this branch are crooked and Hertz complicit.
I would have ticked a "zero" star if I could..... Be aware of the fraud. I really hope that my recent car rental experience from this Hertz Thrifty office at Bezierss Cap'd Agde airport will benefit anyone who is planning to go on a car hire journey, especially collecting from this particular airport office, where many international travellers are found to be a easy target. In late November 2022 I made my booking online from Hertz Thrifty UK site and paid for a Renault Capture to be picked up at the Bezizer Cap'd Agde airport on the 4th of December and to return this on the 11th of December 2022. After my partner and I landed at Beziers airport on the 4th of December 2022, I went straight to the Hertz Thrifty office to pick up the car I booked. Over 10 minutes after the lady at the desk took a copy of my car rental booking confirmation, I was told that the car that I have booked was not found. Eventually, she said to me "I will have to force it". I did not think much of it as I just wanted to collect the car and get on with my onward journey. As a standard practice, I was given some documents to sign and provided them with my payment details. Just after I have signed everything, this lady told me that the car I am about to pick up has got some existing scratches and she said she will email me the details with photographs later! As instructed I went to collect the car from the Hertz car park, where there's no staff at all present. My partner and I had good look at the car, and nothing unusual (including the supposed "scratches") was detected other than noticing the car has not been cleaned. Again we did not think much of it and got on with our short journey to a village nearby, which is only 10 minute drive away, where we stayed. During one week of rental, there has been a very light use, less than 200km in 7 days, we know nothing has happened to the car at all so went on returning the car with every confidence. This agency is a disgrace. I rented the car through AutoEurope with the minimum mandatory insurance (CDW, 3rd party). When I got there, they insisted that I had no insurance coverage included. When I showed them my voucher they eventually conceded that I had, and then tried to sell me extra insurance. I refused it and they were visibly annoyed. When we returned the car, they came out to look at it (unusual) and lo and behold discovered a scuff on one of the alloys. I have no idea how this got there and likely was there when we rented it. The before and after photos they sent us were exactly the same, showing no damage. They are now trying to charge over Euro 300 which I am currently contesting. Shocking intimidatory tactics. They are clearly determined to recoup insurance money however they can...
Rented via Dollar for 440 euros, dollar is run by Hertz. Refused all insurance as the price doubled the rental amount. On returning home they’ve charged credit card for £740 - almost double the agreed amount and have said we took our insurance which we didn’t. The thing is this is actually theft. Have informed the police and challenged via credit card company. DO NOT RENT A CAR THROUGH THESE PEOPLE.
