Avis
A wonderful spot with GR20 charm. I visited La Tonelle several times since 2014, when finishing GR20 myself, or picking somebody up. Surprisingly good restaurant (discovered 2025) with great food and atmosphere. Very nice hosts. I will definitely be back. The Gite is great with connection to GR20, but I think it can be visited on its own, just for some day walks in the area.
Excellent food at the restaurant, staff very friendly and beautiful place where you can rest after GR20 hike.
Nice camping. We stayed here after we finished the GR20. Lovely host. The shuttle to Porto Vecchio leaves right here.
Bed bugs - Avoid sleeping in this accommodation. Our room had a lot of bed bugs. We killed around 50 bed bugs in our room at night. There were a lot of poop traces once we checked the beds more precisely at night (that means we haven't bring the bed bugs. There were already there before). The staff should have been aware of this issue. Next morning the reception was closed. We reported this issue by e-mail but no response. Even though I have treated all my belongings, I found one bed bug at home. Now I got the issue. Thank you very much!
A few years ago, I arrived at the Gite de la Tonnelle late one night, intending to start hiking the GR20 the next day. I slept in the next morning (it was a long trip from Canada to Conca), and woke to find that someone had stolen my brand new hiking boots. I had no other footwear. I was barefoot, thousands of miles from home, with no idea where or how I could find and purchase new boots and continue my trip. The staff were lifesavers; absolutely fantastic. They apologized (even though it was obviously not their fault, at all); assured me it had never happened before; and the owner drove me for many miles to two other towns and by some miracle found a pair of good boots in my size. The owner and his staff simply could not have been more kind or helpful. With the misadventure, I stayed for 2 days and 2 nights, and enjoyed the food, the location, the facilities and the company. It was (in retrospect) a wonderful start to my GR20 hike. Since then, I always sleep with my boots close to my side. And I'll forever be grateful to the owner and others at the Gite de la Tonnelle.
Large spacious room with nice showers. There is a downstairs communal area with a well equipped kitchen. The dinner set menu is also good value for money.
For a camping gite I guess it is ok. Could be cleaner (under the beds). No soap or towels in the room, but I guess that was expected. Heard complaints about bed bugs. Will see if we bring any home.
To inform the pros first: The food at la Tonnelle is excellent, and the space for the tents is acceptable. Phone charge is for free. The cons are: Sanitation facilities are lousy. Despite other claims there is no shuttle, on request there is no hint for alternatives provided, emails are not answered. Chez Alice (former APunta?) , Paninicca, Conca, opposite to Bar GR20 claims to provide shuttle service.
