5.0 Apostolos KYRIAKOU

One of the best classic French restaurants in Marseille and plenty choices of good wines

Le Julien was recommended to us by a waiter in a tapas bar after arriving late into Marseille and searching for a traditional French restaurant. The entire evening was everything we wanted in a French restaurant, a fantastic experience: well prepared food, a good bottle of Beaujolais and a very generous cheese platter. Our waitress (Anne?) was warm and engaging and took time to translate the menu for us. After our cognac, she brought a bottle of Armagnac and left it on the table for us, at no charge. This is what a good dining experience should be; like visiting friends.

On a recent two week trip to Europe, this was one of our top 3 meals. This is a cozy restaurant and not pretentious in any way. The staff was helpful, in English, and the food was outstanding. Great wine was a GREAT price and encouraged extra bottles for our table. Four at our table ordered pigeon, sweetbreads, rabbit and some pasta dish(why!?). Any of the first three dishes would have been reported by me as a triumph. One of the best parts of this was that, if one is willing to walk three extra blocks in Marseilles, one can escape the food tuned to tourism and eat with the locals in an approachable venue. This is one of two restaurants on our last trip that i will return to France to show new friends.

The best fillet steak I've had in a long time, creamy mash potatoes and very delicious home made french fries. Authentic meal in a lovely setting and a fantastic waiter! Highly recommend this place for a perfect meal in Marseille, thank you!

The service was good, food was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable!. For starters, the calamari is definitely the best and the prawn sauce that comes with the scorpion fish is worth the cholesterol.

Went to eat here in over 6 months ago and still think of it a lot.. It was incredibly tasty. Deserves a star. If you're in the area, go here! I'll definitely come back if I get the chance.
