When searching for pastries in Colmar, Boulangerie Maison Alexandre kept coming up. Although we were in a hurry to get to the train station, we woke up 30 minutes early just so we could stop here for some pastries on the way! I am so glad we did, because this place bakes a mean croissant and a tasty baguette (among other things). It was about a 15 minute leisurely stroll (with luggage) from our hotel in the heart of town to the bakery. When we arrived, there was a long line as well as large groups of people outside. This, as most foodie travelers have ingrained in their very being, is a terrific sign that THIS is a place you want to stop. And it is! The boulangerie has tons of awards and medals that they proudly display as bragging rights. They've won a multitude of "best of," and I can say they are all well deserved. Pastries are sort of the national food of France. Note that, this being France, the staff certainly didn't have the patience to deal with stupid American tourists. They were, as you'd expect, quite aloof if not downright rude. The workers refused to take larger bills once they saw that we had smaller ones, and they were trying to shortchange other patrons left and right. Luckily I was aware (and tried to speak some French, which went a LONG way), and they didn't pull any shenanigans with me. I purchased a baguette and a croissant to take on the train for a snack. As a bread lover and carb addict, I couldn't wait to dig into the baguette and started munching on it as soon as I stepped outside the store. It was absolutely perfect in texture, density, and salty, yeasty flavor. The croissant was even better. I had asked for a plain croissant, but they gave me one that was dusted with powered sugar and slivered almonds. It was sweet and yummy and while not an item I'd normally order, it was buttery, flaky, and delicate. This is a bakery that's worth a detour and your time, especially if you are seeking authentic, delicious French pastries. Highly recom

We were looking for a boulangerie in Colmar that was open early before our train to our next stop, and Maison Alexandre was one of the only open. Others must have had the same idea, since there was a line out the door. It moved quickly though. These were some of the first croissants we had in France — and they set the bar high. We got the plain croissant, a chocolate croissant and some sort of fruity pastry, along with some juice. They were all super flaky, and we never came across the criss cross pattern one with fruit again in Lyon or Nice. Highly recommend for a train snack at whatever time you’re leaving.

The croissants are amazing!! We had the pistachio and almond one and were both amazing! Walked to the river to enjoy them. Worth the wait in the queue

Had the greatest pastries here! Especially the croissant dubbele dipped in chocolate (not pictured). White and dark chocolate... so so good! 😍❤️

Stopped for a sandwich and I wanna go back every day and try a different one! Fresh bread, with amazing butter and ham and the other selections looked wonderful. Highly recommend this off the touristy path bakery for the best sandwiches and service with a smile.

Podium well deserved! Amazing croissant au beurre! And although sounds easy to prepare them it is very difficult to find a real 'artisan boulanger'. Well, in Colmar there is one!
