Avis
Beautiful but the opening times aren’t correct. While willing to enter there was told to come back at 14:00 because it’s was closed between 12:00 and 2:00 pm. Of course we weren’t gonna wait for that.
It’s boarded up but you can still walk up to it! Lovely views and information board about the local area. It is very exposed, so be sure to wear plenty of suncream in the summer
Erected by the Anduze Barons in the XI - Xllth Century, it was a guard post to protect the pilgrims taking the Regordane, a Celtic route going from Orléans to St Gilles. Since 1968, the association “Renaissance du Château de Portes” restores the castle thanks to volunteers.
We stopped here to eat our lunch - there are nice shaded stone picnic tables near the parking area, and a short walk up the hill to get to the castle. It wasn't open when we were there, but there are really nice views of the surrounding countryside and the building is pretty amazing, made to resemble a ship with a pointed bow facing south. Worth a visit!
Unfortunately, the place was closed. The view was totally amazing. Mountains and forest ah, I didn't know that France is this amazing country. Even though this place is closed but view from this place will totally worthy.
The Château de Portes is a castle located in the commune of Portes in the Gard département of France. It overlooks the Regordane, an ancient avenue used by the pilgrims of Saint-Giles and the Croisés on their way towards the Holy Land for a distance of ten miles.
Stunning views and nature around it, and a truly one of a kind château. Very impressive.
