Today, I had the misfortune of stepping into this money trap. I attended an event at ENS on 18 June 2026 and was surprised to discover that “hospitality” apparently means being told to go buy food elsewhere or pay absurd cafeteria prices. I had to leave the building and find my own lunch on the scorching-hot streets of Paris in 34 °C heat. Even the free coffee came with no sugar, milk, or cream—as if condiments were an optional luxury. The local coffee machine serves much better coffee with greater variety than what was served at this event. Truly traumatizing experience. For a prestigious institution, the refreshments were impressively nonexistent. Come for the intellectual nourishment; bring your own snacks for the rest. And why can’t I give 0 stars for a review? One star is too generous for this place.

I cannot recommend studying here as an international student - unless you want awkwardly elitist professors who shamelessly compare themselves to peers at more prestigious US/UK universities, the coldest, most cutthroat environment, and, complex and arbitrary regulatuons (when your credits are not recognised and you are not allowed to graduate as planned, do not expect explanations, sympathy, or solutions - you will just have to write off your time here as an interesting experience). Also things were regularly stolen from the rooms by these "elite minds" and there were also bedbugs in the dorm rooms in the historic building (45 rue d'Ulm).

Teachers and researchers are amazing human beings. Can’t compare. Best library too. And the cafeteria is great
