Avis
We had a fantastic visit to Le Lazaret thanks to our guide, Gary. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much fascinating history with us. As English speakers, we really appreciated that he conducted the tour in excellent English. Highly recommended!
This memorial place is worth visiting. the free exhibition will allow you to learn more about these buildings and how Reunion Island was populated.
Beautiful place and FREE entrance. Description Is only in French, but employees tell you about pláče and give you leaflets about, some main descriptions Is in English. Givin' five Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 😀👍
Amazing staff, very passionate about what she does. Also the place was free (great for tourists!) Very well preserved location. A fundamental place for the history and development of Reunion
Perhaps 10,000 people a month hike the English Road Trail (chemin des anglais). Le Lazaret is the name of the former quarantine station at Grande Chaloupe. Le Lazaret building n.° 1 is a musuem. The train station (gare de ti-train) is also a museum. All of these places are in the Reunion Island highlands national park (parc national des Hauts de la Reunion). Hike involves a climb of 500 meters. From St Bernard to Grande Chaloupe less than one hour. From La Possession to Grande Chaloupe perhaps 2 hours or more. 45 minutes for the very fit.
This place tells a great deal about the island's history and how complicated it was to control diseases from all over the world. Like everything historical on Réunion, admission is free. Besides the infirmary, there's also the story of the plants that everyone brought with them from around the globe.
