A small, fortified city on an island at Concarneau. We arrived at low tide, and left as the tide returned. You can walk part of the ramparts but only one ruined tower. Inside, the city consists of essentially 3 streets--1 main thoroughfare & two streets along the castle walls. Most of the buildings are restaurants and clothing or souvenir shops. A lovely view of the bay can be seen on 2 sides, while the other sides show the adjoining town. Historical signs are few & in French only. We visited on a market day, so parking was a pain. We finally found spots about a mile away. Stop on the castle walls side for a less crowded lunch. A photo opp outside L'Amiral for Magritte & Dupin mystery fans. It's free to enter the close.
Very crowdy and full of shops more or less interesting. A walk around the walls is your best option to admire the port, sea and city.
A very beautiful fortified town and castle, free to enter. In my home country, this would cost a fortune to enter, but it is great that it is free for all to enjoy. Lots of great local shops, delicious ice cream, baguettes and crepes, as well as a surplus of gift shops and clothes shops. Would recommend, as there is often live music and shows going on, at the gate at the start and the little amphitheatre at the end. You can also walk along the walls, which is a great way to see the beautiful surroundings of Concarneau.
Such a magical experience coming here after many years away. This place is such a rare beauty. There’s tons of local shops and restaurants and everyone here is so lovely and kind. I came on a rainy/stormy day with my family and we were some of the very few people there. A lot of the places were closed (we came in early December) but that didn’t bother us very much as we were there for the rich history.
Lovely place. You can walk along the ramparts which has wonderful views of the surrounding area. Lots of shops to browse through and good restaurants and creperies. There are performers on different parts from jugglers to guitarists and even a didgeridoo player. Well worth a visit.
Beautiful, picturesque town. The old town is very beautiful and well worth a visit. Sightseeing, shopping and dining options aplenty! The new town is also nice, but definitely highlight is that stunning old town
The closed city of Concarnau is a lovely place to wander. It's not that huge, and it's quite authentic. There are paid parking places nearby. For the most part, it's available by wheelchair and buggy. The viewpoints, however, aren't. There are a few restaurants and gift shops and there are enough places to sit down and take a moment. It can be very crowded.
Lovely, historical place to visit. Great, authentic streets with interesting places to shop and eat. There was also live entertainment too. You can walk around the fortifications, but some of the stairs are a little tricky, so take care. Fantastic views, so don't forget your camera.
