Time your visit to avoid the cruise ships or you will be in for a long wait. 30 mins for us in the rain. What bits of the castle you get to visit are interesting but in reality you only get to see a fraction of the whole. The ticket desk is painfully slow. Great views of the town.

Wonderfull castle that you mist visit. This is a type of castle i would like to see in my visits in foreign places. Great view, exceptional architecture and an organisrd museum.

Enormous disappointment Totally overrated. They advertise it as the big Oceanopolis of Brest, but in reality? Four seals. That’s it. Unless you have small children (under 10), don’t bother — it’s a huge letdown. The place feels empty, outdated, and absolutely not worth the high ticket price. For what you pay, you expect something impressive. Instead, you get a handful of basic tanks, repetitive displays, and barely any real excitement. I came expecting a world-class marine experience. I left feeling like I’d just thrown my money away. Save your time and budget — there are way better things to do in Brittany.

Medieval castle with small maritime museum. Nice collection of wood sculptures.

Superb castle and museum. The buildings are beautifully restored and maintained, and the exhibitions, particularly the Musée de la Marine, are fascinating and very well presented. Excellent value for money, too. The fact that the chateau is still the HQ of the naval préfet adds a strong sense of continuity - this is still a living, working structure.
