I attended groups lessons at the Ecole des Ski de France at Couchevel 1850 from January 19 to January 23. It was a wonderful exprerience, especially because of my instructor Mr Maxime Nicolett. He was the right balance of fun and techical instruction. Tks a lot Maxime!!!! Stefania
Great school and TOP 6 groups are top :) Kids were enjoying the rides even though it was snow and tough conditions. They managed to ski and have fun.
This school at 1850 is at the top village moutain (Google location is accurate) so consider this if you're at 1650, middle of mountain, or 1550 a little lower mountain, or in the middle somewhere. If your kids will be here for a few days or more then I recommend you find lodging at 1850 and book 10 months in advance. There is no parking in their lot so you'll have to take van / car service there or park on the street (good luck ) which you need to get the app ideally or go to the parking lot that is 1500 feet away and walk there. Not easy to park during season in 1850 parking lot and fills up quick. Forget the bus completely. Get there early by car by 845am ideally to 9 am the latest, to equipment the kids and for the latest of 930 am start. You can do a quick drop off at their lot in morning but can't park there. You'll thank me for this advices of what to do. At 430 pm pick up there has tons of traffic at top and pick up and going down the mountain and it will take 30 to 40 (normally 12) minutes during season to get to about 1550 so plan for this. Go eat or shop, or get car service and just be patient. If you order car service when you need it at 430 it will take 30 minutes to get to you possibly. Order early and have them wait. Buy lift tickets for your children or they can't go on the main lifts (even as students at the school). The front desk staff women are exceptional. The care and kindness was excellent for our 3 year old with the ladies. They all spoke English and are engaging and helpful. They were warm / kind / gentle. Book lessons here 3-4 months in advance or they will sell out likely in high season. There is ski helmet and heated boot racks for the kids so you can leave their stuff there overnight. You need to rent or bring your own equipment, even for little ones. For our 6 year old he felt bored within 2 days. It was his 4th season skiing. We watched daily and saw mostly 'follow down the mountain teaching' which we and he felt
We had the terrible bad luck of falling with Mr. Anthony from ESF as ski instructor – a really bad experience. Mr. Anthony is extremely arrogant (and we find it funny, as we don’t know how someone as mediocre as him can be that arrogant). He is also aggressive and lazy, a bad instructor overall. It is a shame and a waste of time and money for many clients – ESF should take measures on this matter.
Great if you want a tour guide - you will barely learn anything new vs if you use a better school with a limit on the number of people per class Unprofessional - Carla specifically was one of the worst instructors I have ever come across - if you want an early stage skier to hate the mountain and never ski again, then she is your woman - some of the other instructors are great people - its just a bad unprofessional school
Had the most amazing experience with Flo. He was the best teacher. My very first time skiing and he made sure I learnt the basics and by the end I was able to do an entire run down with him. I could not recommend the school enough and ask for Flo if you can, he is the best!
I can't think of any better option that ESF. My wife was her first ever to ski and thank to Emmanuel and his teaching and coaching skills in just one day she managed to ski in different slopes green and blue with his support. Definitely ESF is the option to ski in Courchevel with coaches who are attentive and give each skier his/her own time to pickup. We enjoyed it and was a wonderful experience. Again thanks to ESF and special thanks to Emmanuel.
We took 5 full day course for our five year old daughter, who skied for the first time. After the completion of the course, she had her wolf badge, and was confidently skiing with snow plough and turning on green slopes, and even did one blue on Meribel (s express) This was true for family friend as they, they were very confident and slowing down and speeding in controlled. They were even able to use the family park. Teachers were good, and seems the process is well established. Obviously kids at this age not always want to go, so had to motivate her and explain that teachers teach best, and it is safer if she learns, otherwise adults slopes are dangerous. We are looking for next year and cant wait to see what progress she will have. Btw, leaving boots to dry and skis is easier for pick up and drop off. I wish we knew this information from day 1, if we were briefed at reception maybe
