My experience at the hospital was excellent despite the circumstances. The staff responded quickly, accurately diagnosed my fracture, and applied a cast without delay. Everyone was extremely kind, professional, and supportive throughout the process. As a foreigner, I was especially impressed by how smooth and reassuring the entire experience was. I felt well taken care of at every step, which made a stressful situation much easier to handle. I am very grateful for the high level of care and professionalism.

CHU de Caen was known as the best hospital in the 80s. However, I recently had a disappointing experience there. Both of my parents were admitted at the same time for a 6-day stay. It's disheartening to say that the hospital's cleanliness left much to be desired, and the staff's behavior was quite rude. I understand the challenges hospitals face with staffing shortages in recent times, but that should never be an excuse to mistreat patients. My mother, who is 85 years old, was not served the 4 pm "goûter" for four consecutive days. When I inquired with the nurse, her response was, "we don't have time." Proper nutrition is a crucial part of a patient's well-being and recovery process, and it's distressing to hear such a response. This experience raises serious concerns about the hospital's standards and our healthcare system. Treating patients, especially elderly ones, with respect, care, and dignity should always be a top priority.

I went for an important and long standing prostate problem. What an incredible experience. Thank you to all the team who worked quickly and efficiently and in harmony with the surgeons. Especial thanks to the nurse who helped reassure me, often in English, through the long operation. As a result of their skills and dedication I am now living a normal life again. Merci

I woke at 2am at home with terrible pain in left eye I was panicking so went to CHU , although in pain not seen for hours even though lots of staff and very few patients , eventually a student came and put water in my eye but pain was back in 30 minutes, I was sat in a small chair all night , not even seen ,at 7am I assume staff change over, lots of staff noise and laughing I shouted out shut up as by now tired and in pain a nurse came over told me to calm down I lost the plot , yet to punish me I assume, no more contact until 1030 , taken into a observation room , light was not working! Moved to another room 1 hour later given a description for creams , absolutely shocking treatment worse than UK

This is a good hospital with good doctors and staff. However there are issues in particular with communications between doctors and patients. Doctors and Consultant telephone numbers and email addresses are published on the CHU website but are of little use. In practice there is little or no response or timely response using these methods and even a snail mail letter can be ignored. If income is directly proportional to patients visits then to be fair to patients a salaried scheme should be implemented. Patient consultation reports are also in need of revision in terms of promptness. It can take more than 3 weeks for report to get to a GP or Patient even though the report is generated via a Dictaphone on the examination day. Perhaps there is an overload of work for all concerned but communications on all levels , especially secretaries and postal facilities, has considerable room for improvement. These days most people , in particular Doctors - who must access records via the Internet - have email. So why not save money and time and email these reports? If there are concerns re security then Patients and Doctors could access reports as they do with blood tests - that is via a secure website with an access code issued by SMS or other means.

My experience of this hospital is staff are amazing. I was transferred to this hospital fro one in Cherbourg after being airlifted from the ferry from Dublin. From porter to consultant staff were professional, efficient and so human. Thank you so much.

Awful awful place. My mum was admitted due to a broken leg. Dirty horrible staff, they threw my elderly dad out in the rain for 6 hours without telling him where my mum was. Such a horrendous experience, you’re all a disgrace!
