If you are visiting Saintes then would recommend making the effort to visit. There is some parking near the entrance but there is a public car park at the church near by but it’s a bit of a walk on a hot day and hilly. The facilities are very good.

An amazing Roman arena tucked away in the suburbs of Saintes. You can walk all around the ruins, including into the arena itself. There are information sheets available in English at the ticket office. There is limited on site parking but this wasn't a problem when we visited.

Roman amphitheatre well worth a visit. Partly reconstructed, giving you a good sense of what it looked like.

So gorgeous! The fares to get in are so cheap I couldn’t believe it and although the monument is currently undergoing reconstruction, this doesn’t take away from its impressive features and intriguing history. If you haven’t been before I would definitely recommend for all ages- definitely better on a sunny day though as a party from the cafe and gift shop all is outdoors!

The Gallo-Roman amphitheatre of Saintes is an amazing remnant of our long ago past. We rented the audio guides (available in English and French) and spent a fascinating 45 minutes immersing ourselves in history and architecture. Don't miss the photo exhibition on the outer wall; just follow the green line around to the back of the Accueil building. It shows photos of all the phases of the amphitheatre for the last 200 or 300 years. There is an ingenious picnic table to enable someone in a wheelchair to pull up under the top and enjoy a meal at a table. Brilliant idea.

Ruins of roman amphitheatre. Not in good conditions, but its in reconstruction now. Low entrance fee, you can pay by card. Small gift shop. They have nice children playground with games from roman times - recommended try it. They offer 3D glasses but its only drone images, not historically animation.

Well worth seeing. Can walk around the perimeter and look down on it without having to pay entry fee.

Beautiful piece of history, a stunning place to visit and wonderful scenery all around.
