Great place and location, beautiful surroundings and really nice environment. The resort is pretty with a great view of the Tuscany hills and towns. 15-minute drive from Pienza. The only complaint is the breakfast, which starts too late (8:30), and the quality and choice of the food are not very good.
Drawn in by glowing reviews, we had high hopes for this place — and in some ways, it delivered. The setting is genuinely breathtaking, with spectacular views and plenty of outdoor seating to soak up the natural surroundings. On a sunny day, sitting outside here is hard to beat. Unfortunately, that's where the highlights end for us. The room was disappointingly small, and the double bed consisted of two separate mattresses with no top cover — a simple detail that made for a surprisingly poor night's sleep. We'd recommend clarifying bedding arrangements before booking if you're a light sleeper. The bathroom was, frankly, a shock. For such a charming, atmospheric property, the standard here feels completely out of place. The space is tiny — borderline claustrophobic — and the shower is barely functional. Turning around requires real effort, the fixtures are worn and tired, and the water temperature offers only two settings: scalding or freezing. There's no middle ground. It's also worth noting that the property is not accessible for guests with mobility difficulties, which isn't mentioned clearly enough upfront. The access road is another thing to be prepared for — a roughly 10-minute drive along an unpaved gravel track from the main road. Breakfast was average, nothing to write home about. A beautiful location let down by poor room quality and a bathroom that urgently needs attention. With some investment in the basics, this could be a gem.
Interesting exterior and roomy suites with tiny shower stalls. Note check-in time ends at 7:30 pm. Great bedding - supportive mattress. Lovely views of the Tuscan countryside. A 15-minute drive from Pienza. Breakfast had good-tasting cured meats, pastries, whole fruits, yogurts, cereal, and both normal and decaffeinated espresso; but not a large selection. Our room had a very smoky or incense smell and unstable Wi-Fi. Our room had four USB-A and four USB-C (PD) charging ports. There are two Porsche Destination Chargers in the parking lot; during our one night, all guests used either taxi or internal-combustion engine cars. Parking seemed to be constrained - there is an overflow lot down the hill from the main building. We didn't use the infinity pool, but it looked nice.
Although the hotel appeared beautiful at first glance, the actual stay was very disappointing. The soundproofing was completely inadequate — I could hear conversations from the next room, footsteps from the floor above, and even the sound of toilets flushing, making it impossible to rest comfortably. The room was very small and did not even have a single chair. The shower head was also broken, causing the water temperature to constantly fluctuate between very hot and cold, and the bathroom had poor ventilation, resulting in a strong unpleasant odor. At dinner, the medium steak I ordered quickly turned tough and overcooked like well-done. The breakfast was also very poor and minimal. Even the coffee was not properly made espresso. Out of my 15-day trip to Italy, this was the most disappointing and unfriendly hotel experience, and I would have no reason to stay here again.
Borgo Sant’Ambrogio is simply beautiful. Staff are friendly and helpful and go out of their way to create the sense of comfort and ease which oozes from the beautiful spaces throughout the property. This is a very special place.
A beautiful cute hotel for one night, but not 5 stars. Pros: the location is beautiful, the views on the landscapes of Tuscany are amazing (but this is not the merit of the hotel) . The hotel territory is well -groomed. Tasty food in a restaurant. Breakfast food is also quite tasty, and a woman who makes coffee is incredibly sweet and friendly. Cons: the most important problem for me is the complete absence of sound insulation between the rooms. Absolutely everything can be heard: from flashing the toilet by someone in another room, to all steps and conversations. Moreover, it is heard as if this happens a meter from you. I have never met such bad sound insulation before in any hotel, especially five stars. The hotel has the rules that you need to behave quietly at night (probably they are aware of the problem of course), but not all guests are worried about it, so the night was extremely sleepless. I think that the hotel management could take care of the noise level at least somehow and put thick fluffy carpets in the rooms so that at least the steps of other guests, who live above you, were not heard so loudly. And more little details as dirty plate with food (peel from a banana and fruit remains) near the pool; the absence of robes in the rooms, a flowing shower with a broken switch between a small and tropical shower. Overall it's a lovely place for a romantic stay, with great nature around, but don't expect 5 stars. If you have problems with sleep, wake up from the noise very easily, than I don't recommend to stay more than for one night, otherwise you will be exhausted.
The property itself is truly beautiful, with excellent views and a very peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Our room was spacious and comfortable, Restaurant was good. the restaurant staff were also polite and courteous. However, we were disappointed by the service from some of the other staff, particularly at reception. Given that this is a five-star hotel, we expected a higher standard of hospitality. We were traveling with large suitcases and needed assistance getting to and from our room, especially since the property includes several steps. Not only was help not proactively offered, but when we did request assistance, the staff’s response was noticeably cold and unwelcoming. Even when we expressed our thanks for the minimal help we eventually received, the attitude remained dismissive. The staff was especially rude at checkout time, the person at reception during check-in was not rude. For a hotel of this caliber, guest service should be a top priority, and unfortunately, the lack of warmth and professionalism from some of the staff left a negative impression. Also, the bathroom trash was already full when we arrived at the room. The location and beauty surrounding the property more than makes up for the lack of service, however don’t come here expecting a 5-star service.
