Avis
The most wonderful historic church with incredible stained glass windows sitting within the 15th century fortified walls of Guérande - one of the best preserved and complete in France The building has undergone several modifications over the centuries. Only the nave and its pillars remain from the original Romanesque Church which was destroyed during the sack of Guérande by the Normans in 1342. The building was restored in the 14th and 15th centuries in the flamboyant Gothic style. It is renowned for its remarkable collection of stained glass windows. The windows were not installed all at once but are the result of continuous additions and restorations from the 16th Century when significant windows depicting Saint Aubin and Saint Julien were installed. During the 17th Century large-scale stained glass installations continued, further enriching the interior. During the 18th & 19th Centuries the windows suffered damage from natural events, including a major storm in 1705. Extensive restorations and new additions occurred in the 19th century to repair this damage and preserve the artistic heritage. The church has just started a marathon restoration project costing 10 million euros - and spread over 10 years.
Beautiful Church within the Cité Médiévale of Guérande. A Must Do
Cycle touring and turned up to do the BCN/BPF and get a stamp. Wasn't allowed in as someone was having a funeral. Very disappointing.
Great collegialle surrounded by a nice village. It's a perfect spot to take pictures and do some shopping in the area.
This is a stunning building in the middle of Guerande, with beautiful stained glass and impressive artwork throughout.
Beautiful but one of the staff members is extremely rude.
