Extremely large castle ruins that is free to the public. The road up is windy and steep, there is ample parking at the top. The views for miles are panoramic.
The view over Hyeres doesn't get better than from up there and also the walk up. However, a lot of the paths to the ruin and inside the ruin are not taken care of at all. Not well suited for people with trouble walking. There is no entry fee or anyone guarding the place; in this regard it is surprisingly clean and without any graffiti
This old castle is free to enter and about a 20-30 minute hike from the centre of the old town. The castle itself can be a little difficult to climb, so I recommend good shoes and at least average levels of fitness. It provides some great views of the surrounding countryside and parts of Hyere. Overall expect a few hours to get to, around, and back from the old castle (assuming you walk). An enjoyable day out.
We saw sunrise 6 days out of 8. It was a good 23-33 minute (sometimes steep) walk up from where we stayed, but worth it every time!
A very scenic and beautiful area with the remains of an ancient castle. The views are fantastic from here and there are many different angles for photography. We were there just before sunset and got many fabulous photos.
A good idea for a different kind of excursion that doesn’t just include an energizing walk to exploration to the remainings of the history of Hyeres , offers as well the opportunity to learn the strategic areas of interest around and the living conditions of the castle and his fortress. The view is like a window on the city and a great opportunity for visitors to learn some facts of cultural interest.
An absolutely wonderful spot to go with kids. My children loved exploring this chateau ruin. We could easily spend a few hours there. Even though there was abit of climbing involved my 4 year old manGes without a problem. Make sure you take some water especially in summer.
Lovely ruin, brisk walk up the hill. Would be nice to see more of the development throughout history displayed along with anekdotes to see history come alive
