Went there for the chicken of course! Place is quit big upstairs and downstairs. Lots of locals and tourists. As per other reviews, yes the chicken is in the smaller size, flavor is ok. We had to ask for more Piri Piri oil to get our heat spice going. Tomato salad was ok. The chicken was done well, juicy. We had to order more chicken as well to satisfy our appetite. Was I disappointed “no” but there are many other Piri Piri chicken places to explore. Service was good!
We visited Ramires Algarve to try their famous chicken, as it is highly recommended and known as a local experience. The chicken was good, but honestly, it didn’t fully live up to the hype for us. It was a well-cooked chicken with a standard sauce, but nothing particularly surprising or unique. For locals, especially those who grew up with this style of food, it may be a great and comforting experience. However, for someone used to different chicken dishes and a broader Mediterranean food culture, it felt more on the simple and familiar side. That said, the overall experience was still pleasant. We’re glad we went to experience a well-known local spot, and the atmosphere and authenticity made it worthwhile. While it may not be unforgettable, we were generally satisfied and happy to have tried it as part of the local food scene.
What have we been doing with our lunches/dinners!!!! We got bolt from Albufeira €6-8 This will be an absolute return visit Fantastic food spotlessly clean restaurant and toilets. 3 story building with seating for 450-500 people!!! Waiter ordered for us and brought us lunch!!! Hands down one the best spots we have visited , we got in just before they closed after lunch they open for evening at 6:30.
Fast service, plenty of space, nice staff. But the most important, the best piri piri chicken in the area. Their chicken with tomatoes salad and friea are fingers liking. The wines also good, and very cold beer. I recommend to visit this place if you are in the area. It worth to drive for an hour here.
Came mid week in May and was seated instantly. Very friendly server, delicious chicken. We came out of our way to come here and glad we did!
Review: A Solid Classic, But Does It Live Up to the Legend? Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) If you find yourself in Albufeira or Guia, Ramires is practically a mandatory pilgrimage. As the self-proclaimed birthplace of Frango à Guia, expectations are naturally sky-high. You expect the heavens to part when that first plate of charred, spicy poultry hits the table. The Food Let’s be clear: the Chicken Piri-Piri is objectively good. The skin is crispy, the meat is tender, and the signature sauce has that addictive, vinegary kick with just the right amount of heat. It’s lightyears ahead of your average Nando’s. The traditional sides—tomato salad with plenty of oregano and thin, crispy fries—do exactly what they’re supposed to do. The Reality Check However, I have to be honest: I was bracing for a "wow effect" that never quite materialized. Being the "birthplace" of a dish creates a certain mystique, but at the end of the day, it is still just simple, grilled chicken. The atmosphere is very much "high-volume canteen." It’s loud, fast-paced, and efficient, which is great if you’re hungry, but it lacks the charm or intimacy you might hope for from such a legendary spot. You’re in and out like a cog in a very well-oiled piri-piri machine. The Verdict Is it worth a visit? Yes, especially if you want to tick a culinary landmark off your bucket list. You’ll have a tasty, authentic meal that won’t break the bank. Is it life-changing? Probably not. It’s a great piece of chicken, but in a region where almost every local churrasqueira is serving up high-quality bird, the gap between the "legend" and the "neighbor" isn't as wide as the hype suggests. > Pro Tip: Go early to avoid the massive queues, and don't be afraid to ask for extra sauce on the side if you really want to feel the burn. >
The chicken was tasty and not expensive, but portion was smaller than typical. The fries were clearly not fresh cut, but cooked from frozen. Also ordered mixed cheese, but they only brought us 1 variety. Olives and salad were good. Nice to say I've been there but definitely not going back - do many other amazing restaurants in the Algarve
The chicken was tasty, service was fast and efficient, the restaurant decor was nice. However, the portion size was disappointing. The menu lists 'Chicken' and '1/2 Chicken,' so I assumed the standard order would be a whole bird. Given how small the portion was, I can’t imagine how tiny the half-chicken would be. It was worth a try, but I won’t be going back.
