Made me something neither I nor anyone else ever thought I would be - a United States Marine! That was in 1980. I have been back twice now to meet up with those who trained me and see how things are nearly a half-century later. I have never doubted my choice to enlist. My Battalion Commanding Officer was a Medal of Honor Recipient, my Series Gunnery Sergeant was a Vietnam Combat Veteran, and my Drill Instructors for my Platoon, as well as the other 3 Platoons in my series, were the best Parris Island had ever seen. Part of the reason I enlisted was that Iran had taken Americans hostage, and there were rumors of war and a draft. I wasn't going to let someone else tell me which branch I would serve in. I was going to pick the branch I wanted, and I wanted the best. It was a long shot, but the motivation I received from seeing the ribbon of the MOH on the Colonel's chest and hearing the stories of the Gunny, how could I quit in boot camp? I surprised a awful lot of people when I came home wearing that uniform after graduation. I earned the title, Marine! Semper Fidelis!

A place that builds Marines can only get 5 stars and no less. I came here and transformed into a Devil Dog in 2001, and today, over 20 years later, my son marched across the same parade deck I did. You can't even describe how proud I am. Even though I was a Marine, I've never visited MCRD to just look around. So to have my son show me the sites was quite a treat!! Beautiful palm trees and scenic marsh lands surround the entire area, so there's plenty to photograph. Graduation Day was just as expected. Over 1000 people poured in, and as always, Parris Island was prepared. Everything was organized and timely. If you send a loved one here, just know that there is no need to worry. They will be in good hands and will return much differently than how he/she departed. A Marine!!

Arriving at night to this island after a long time traveling makes you a bit groggy, so when you arrive it feels like you are running back and forth, despite remembering the fact that you didn't bring any luggage. Better call home and tell them I made it, on second thought, think i should just leave a message. It was such a blur getting to my room, it felt like I was up for days, just waiting in lines. I had only intended on being there for a week, but they insisted that I stay longer! Meals, clothes, exercise routines, classroom training, and weekly hikes were all included! They even dressed me up with some amazing clothes and took and gave me my picture to show how awesome this place is! I highly recommend a visit!! Not for the faint of heart, though.. P.S. Parris Island has the best sunrises and sunsets ever! SF

First time visiting today with my husband. He attended basic training here dare I saw 40+ years ago. Our time in the visitor center was wonderful. We were greeted by active duty personnel who chatted with us like we were old friends. We popped over to the museum on base. It too was amazing. I had no idea how much history USMC has to be proud of. Husband toured quietly with a nod and smile. Reflecting I’m sure. I’m proud I was able to experience his home coming of sorts. Semper Fi Return ? Definitely

Amazing service no matter where we went. Everyone was so nice and food service was quick! There are multiple places where you can get food and they also carry Starbucks. Other amenities included are: museum, huge supermarket, gift shop, library, restrooms, and even a shuttle to take you around. Graduation and family day ceremony was amazing and unforgettable!!
