Beautiful, peaceful well kept cemetery in lovely surrounding over looking the open countryside. We came to see a relative who rests here and was in the 46th Canadian Infantry.
A serene setting that sadly holds memories of the loss of so many young lives. After finding my great uncle’s resting place Émile Normand, of Hull Québec, I was honoured to have been the first from my family to pay respects for his sacrifice, after 102 years.
We came here to pay our respects to my great great uncle. It's a beautiful cemetery that, as always, is wonderfully kept by the CWGC.
My cousin Albert Foster lies here in this cemetery. He was killed nearby, probably on the edge of Pronier Farm, Ficheux. He was a Private in the Black Watch, 1st Tyneside Scottish having joined up in 1939 with the Durham Light Infantry but later transferred to the Black Watch. He was killed on his 21st birthday on 20 May 1940 by attachments from 8th Panzer Division. The Germans were well equipped and well trained. The British were untrained, disorganised and had no equipment. The 1st Tynesiders went down fighting even though they had light arms and little ammunition. The Germans on the other had Panzer Kampfwagens (tanks) and lots of them - well designed and capable. From accounts they were surrounded by at least 12 tanks. Our family remembers all these men with a heavy heart.
On a provincial road is this medium-sized, combined WWI and WWII cemetery, with 2000 graves.
Well manicured and maintained though the dedication stone is starting to weather and becoming difficult to read.
Nice setting, and maintenance was under way when i visited the site in december.
Another beautifully kept CWGC cemetery.
