You can only enter the building with a guide on Wednesdays and Saturdays at a certain time. Look on the city website to book them. Sadly I found it out too late but just walking around it was very cool. And the people seemed generally very nice and happy that people enjoy looking at their home. Always important to be respectful though. I made sure not to make noise and clean after the dog etc…

Unité d'habitation was a concept of living by le Corbusier. It was a modernist veel of living combines with artistic expression. This concept was built in Marseille and eventually started the Brutalisme movement. It therefore added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016. There were various buildings by Le Corbusier built. The Nantes building also was build to be self sufficient including shops including an and rooftop gallery, What I like about it's exterior is the Piet Mondriaan use of colours.. the wear and tear of the concrete and the contrast of the building with the surrounding nature. Highly recommend just visiting it to urban explore the area

The proto model for so much social housing around the world. This was conceived as a less luxurious version of the Unité d'habitation in Marseille, and still has around 50% social housing occupancy. The familiar hallmarks of Corbusier style are here to see, and worth looking out for. Whatever you think about Corbusier's conceptions of "the building as a machine", his architectural vision of utopia or his own personal political opinions - this building is certainly worth a look if you're nearby. Apparently there are tours where you can visit an original apartment but we didn't get to see that.

The are two tours per week to go inside. We'd missed those so just had a look at it from the outside. Interesting from a historical and artistic perspective. Definitely not beautiful.

La Maison Radieuse, designed by the legendary architect Le Corbusier, is an iconic example of modernist architecture located in the city of Rezé, near Nantes, France. Completed in 1955, this residential building is celebrated for its innovative design and its embodiment of Le Corbusier's vision for urban living. The structure features a unique "brise-soleil" façade that helps regulate light and temperature, promoting a comfortable living environment. La Maison Radieuse consists of multiple apartments arranged in a modular layout, emphasizing open spaces and functional living. The building's design encourages community interaction while providing residents with private spaces. Le Corbusier's principles of "machine for living" are evident in the building's functional aesthetics, which prioritize simplicity and efficiency. The use of bold colors and geometric shapes further reflects his modernist approach. Visitors to La Maison Radieuse can appreciate not only its architectural significance but also the surrounding gardens and communal areas that enhance the living experience. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, it stands as a testament to Le Corbusier's lasting influence on architecture and urban planning. It's a must-see for architecture enthusiasts and anyone interested in modern design.

So much history here and it's great to see that it's still standing today.
