The tapestry was an amazing sight. Really worth paying for the audio guide, to fully understand each scene. The rest of the castle is interesting with views of Angers. Salut
Couldn't find the way to get to the gardens in the moat. They looked fantastic from the ramparts, but no signs or obvious routes.
Go and see the Tapestry of the Apocalypse! Well worth a visit. The chateau has an interesting history and fine views over the town and river Maine-et-Loire. The exhibitions are informative and well made, with models showing the various stages of the château's history There is a restaurant inside the walls, but I think it could do with a café to grab a quick drink and pastry
So much history, easy self guided tour, we took 4 hours to go through the whole thing which also included stopping for lunch and wine. Would
Fantastic history lesson. How often can you walk around the tops of ramparts and castle walls! And the tapestry. Unbelievable. I can’t recommend the audio guide enough. The explanations were detailed and thorough.
A lot of businesses are closed on Sundays in Angers, France so this is an interesting place to visit on a lazy day of rest.
Fantastic chateau, a must visit, super castle, lots of history, well maintained, good value entry. Tapestry is a must see.!!
Excellent! A superb chateau with 800+ years of history, hosting the vast and impressive tapestry of the apocalypse. There is a huge moat with ornate gardens in one part, excellent views of the river and city, superb ramparts and a multilingual audio guide that gives you the details as you walk around. There are internal herb and flower gardens and even a small vineyard within the chateau!
