Very emotional place with full of history. Many bunkers blown up but some still in tact. There are crates in the ground where the artillery hit. We got there and no one else was on sight. Free entry

Initially, I didn’t plan on reviewing this location as I figured thousands of others have already said what needed to be.... however, after reading a number of recent 1 star reviews, I thought it prudent to point out some important notices and facts of life (or nature, in this case). Sunday was my husband (a decade long two tour U.S. Army veteran) and I's first time with a couple of friends from Britain. We had an amazing time and felt how powerful this site was and the sacrifices that were made here. My husband was especially pleased to see this since he originally thought we were just going to Omaha Beach (and I made a whole day of visiting almost everything we could, this being the most impressive feat imo). It seems quite a few people are repeat visitors to this site due to the strong impression it had on them the first time they visited, but for some reason I cannot fathom, they are unhappy with the recent decision to preserve and protect this historic site by fencing off most of it to foot traffic. (They have signs posted on the fences in French AND English asking people to help them preserve the site by respecting this decision) They reminisce the days when they could climb all over the hills and into the crater holes, and recount these as part of their reason for being so impressed.... when these are likely the exact reason why fencing off 90% of it became prioritized in the first place. One reviewer complained about the fences and not being able to access the parts they used to and in the same breath, talked about how they understood why the cliffside path had to be fenced off due to nature eroding its safety. Nature is continuing to erode the other fenced off areas and foot traffic only expedites this process. It also doesn't help when people leave trash in the communication holes of the bunkers and graffiti the walls 🙃 or not read the numerous reviews that span as far back as FOUR YEARS AGO about their rule of "NO ANIMALS ALLOWED," which of course, doe

Incredible and so inspirational you will not believe what the army Rangers had to do to get up these cliffs when you actually see it for yourself a few miles up the road you can actually park and walk across a canola field and go down the side to the beach.

A very short day trip from Bayeux where we were staying during our visit to the Normandy Region of France. The site contains an artillery battery with a fire control post, casemates, and shelters. There is a flat walking path that leads you from the parking lot out to the beaches past the craters. At the location of Pointe du Hoc, you can view the steep 30-meter-high cliffs. The craters left by the bombardments made excellent shelters: the rangers took refuge there to minimize losses. The troops did storm the German battery and destroyed the cannons. The soldiers then discovered a field of ruins caused by shelling and bombing from Allied ships offshore. A sight worth viewing.

Breathtaking views witnessed atrocious human activities that are still felt in the atmosphere when you visit the place. Bunkers, shell craters, barb wire remnant are constant reminder of brutality that a man can do to each other makes you feel humble yet appreciative feelings that it wasn’t you who experienced it first hand. Must visit place to pay respect and reflect.

Very cool! Go if you can. It will help you appreciate your freedom more. Get there early to beat the tour buses if in Paris leave by 4:30 - 5 AM

Free and amazing sights to see when you’re there. Very historical also seeing the bunkers.

Very busy. Allow plenty of time to take everything in. Ship excursions are too fast
