• Historic & architectural significance: The Opera traces its origins back to 1787 (the original Grand-Théâtre) and the current building dates from 1924, built after a fire in 1919. • Impressive aesthetic: The auditorium is richly decorated — with Art Deco and classical details, a horseshoe-shaped hall with multiple rings/boxes, and ornate interior finishes. • Quality of performances: The company hosts opera, ballet, chamber music, and other live culture events, offering visitors a chance to experience high-level productions in Marseille. • Accessibility & cultural relevance: It is centrally located near the Vieux-Port and in a lively urban area, making it a convenient cultural stop in the city.
When we went, there was an exhibition about light in progress, but unfortunately, we couldn't get tickets. Right in front of us, a Christmas market was active, and beautiful lights were illuminating the opera house.
I just walked by, but it was a beautiful building.
Lovely building in a quieter area than the port. They’re a few shops and restaurants near by. I haven’t been able to attend any show during my visit but I enjoyed the beautiful architecture and design of it still
We went to a Verdi's Opera and it was an amazing experience!
Website challenging with international cards - had 3 failed attempts. Email to advise of event said no intermission but there was. Wine available in foyer but you are not able to take into auditorium. Seats were OK but sound quality was not the best.
Acoustics is perfect. The seats in the balcony are a bit narrow.
I haven’t been inside but looks beautiful outside!
