1.0 Mini Rag (MiniRag)

The service here is very poor. The reception is open 2 hours in the morning and three in the evenings. Some of the staff speak a little English but some only French. The whole place is in disrepair and presents a serious risk to people like me who are unstable when walking. The outdoor pool is unsupervised, and the pool floor is lifting up in several places which causes difficulty in walking safely in the pool. There appears to be no security in place and young men have been seen hanging around in the grounds who are not residents. Outside the few reception hours it seems there is no one to turn to in an emergency. The hotel takes a €250 deposit and refuses to return it if you don’t follow the rigorous cleaning process they provide on departure. We were told nothing about this on booking but there appears to be an extra charge to have your room cleaned by the hotel. There is also advice on what equipment you may need to acquire for the extensive cleaning process. The foliage around the accommodation is mostly overgrown and seems to invite pests that may present a risk to health. The only action to control overgrowth that I have seen is a young man spraying a liquid around the edges of the reception and most places in open view. The staff who are in place seem friendly and polite mostly but not very helpful. After 7 days, we had to ask for some clean towels but the bedding was unchanged for 10 days. We bought a breakfast for an extra charge on the first day which was expensive but consisted of meagre portions of fruit, jam, bread and cereal. The coffee was included and juice provided but no staff member was visibly seen during our breakfast. We decided not to take up the offer of an evening meal following our breakfast experience.

We didn’t manage to enjoy the indoor swimming pool and the activities offered by the hotel because the hotel staff forgot to put our Expedia booking into their booking system (which was made more than a month ago). We only found out about this after taking a 5 hour train ride from Paris and waited for more than an hour for the reception to be open. The hotel was fully booked due to school holiday and they do not offer refund. The front desk staff was apologetic enough and helped us to call other hotels to check for available rooms (and charge to them). However, it felt that they just want to get us a room that fits their budget. In the end, we booked another hotel ourselves and asked them to confirm if the price was acceptable. Had to make our own way to the new hotel as VVF doesn’t offer any transportation services. Lesson learnt: if you are booking through another booking platform such as Expedia or booking.com, it might be worth it to check with the hotel directly to ensure your booking is registered. Plan your arrival time to this VVF branch as the reception is closed in the afternoon.

Stayed here at their holiday village in 2003 with a Living Church group so we could see some of France at reasonable prices. Toured Geneva, Switzerland, Evian, French Alps, Castle Agile, and much more!

Great family room with a complete kitchen. The food was very good and I ate more than I expected at the Christmas meal (the French like to eat weird things at Christmas). I really enjoyed the "Groupe Jeunes" (Spoiler: we do a big play on the last day before departure). They organize "mini-discos" and karaokes for you to fill your dancing needs. A few things I would change is to possibly add room service (they have over 400 guests) and to get a better antenna for the TV because it loses signal often. The WiFi is excellently managed and very fast in the morning. In general, I would say this is a good destination and we will be coming back here next year.

Basic but great. This is a French holiday village with kids clubs running all week. We had a great time.
