The fort is pretty cool to see. It’s a ghost town with old, abandoned buildings. When you park, to the right of the parking lot is a gorgeous view of the river. It was confusing on where anything was since there were no signs or people. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and there wasn’t a soul in sight. We just walked around and explored. There was a lady in a small shack towards the end of the row of old buildings but we didn’t venture all the way out there. We didn’t have to pay anything to walk around since there was no staff around. There is a small snack shop right when you cross the entrance bridge but you can’t park there unless you have a handicap sticker so you have to walk all the way there and back to the parking lot. It was too tiring in the hot sun or we would’ve gotten an ice cream or souvenir. I do not recommend walking up to the fort from town since it’s all uphill and quite a ways from the street.

Very impressive citadel with a desolated ghost village on top! You will walk through these quiet remains of the town to go to the viewpoint, which provides a great view over Givet. This is definitely a must-visit place if you're in the area.

This is the great place to spend a few hours. The fort is huge, you can drive with your car inside it. There were very few visitors on Sunday in July, so the place is very quite. If you bring your staff, you can enjoy a picknik between ruines absorbing 500 years of history. I found it very peaceful there and wanted to stay longer. The view is breathtakung.

this is definitely the biggest fortress I have ever seen, you can park right in the areal, but we parked under the hill and walked up the road, first part of the fort is free, second is paid, you can buy tickets either right after the entrance in the small restaurant, or further on at the entrance to the paid part, staff is English speaking and very kind, there were military barracks in the area that resemble more modern buildings, the rest is from a historic era, as far as exhibits are concerned, there is nothing there except a small room with some exponats behind the bar, but the area is huge, there are many viewing points, beautiful nature, interesting underground rooms breathing history, even also a children's playground, toilets, refreshment, souvenirs available, we spent almost 2 hours there, it was a great trip, I recommend it

After visit ing the citadel of Dinant this blew my mind. This fort is HUGE, build in 1655 till 1880, it is the largest one i have visited. Ticket is 5 euro only and gives acces to a small part, which is impressive. It used to be a commando training facility till 2009.

Beautiful Fort in Givet. You can walk around and enjoy the history of the fort and the view of the city of Givet.

Very interesting from the point of view of military history - centuries of thought and technological development, all easily neutralised by Stukas in WWII. Guided tour was superb and excellent value. Good views, too - and a nice bar/cafe.

Huge site, 500 years of history. Fabulous views of the surrounding countryside. Lots of restoration/consolidation work under way and potential for loads more to be opened up in the future. Interesting to visit for an hour or two.
