Within the Saint-Sulpice plaza there was a monumental fountain with a centerpiece containing four alcoves, each containing the seated figure of a revered seventeenth century bishop. The fountain was constructed in the mid eighteenth century, almost a century after the completion of the church façade. I rested for a while on a bench in the plaza and I noted with amusement that aside from the usual pigeons clustered around the fountain there was a pair of mallard ducks that would intermittently make an appearance atop the second tier of the fountain.

The plaza is huge and there is pleanty of places around the fountain to shade from the sun if its too hot. Really remarkable creation by highly skilled artisans. It's next to the Catholic cathedral, so you get two attractions within 50 metres of each other. Relax and grab a photo and watch the promenade of people.

I've been here before but never really looked closely at this monumental fountain. On the four sides of the fountain I could see the faces of four bishops from Louis XIV who were never made cardinals! Now I finally understand why some of my friends refer to this fountain as the fountain of the four cardinal points! The other discovery is that the four faces almost aligned perfectly with the four cardinal points of navigation, north, east, south and west. The fountain however is at the forecourt of the Church of Saint-Sulpice Place Saint-Sulpice. It's easy to locate on google maps and really worth exploring.

Beautiful square with imposing water fountain located in front of the Eglise Saint Sulpice. Nice area to take in a breather or simply enjoy the architecture and vibe that Paris has to offer. It is a relatively quiet place so not too crowded. It is located in an area that appears to be a fairly affluent district of Paris with specialist designer shops. Both the church and the fountain are cool places to frequent or visit.

Located within a small square in front of the church of the same name, stands this rather impressive fountain, (currently not running, due to winter), built in the mid 1800’s. Our attention was drawn to the four guys sitting, under a canopy, representing (popular)religious figures, of the time. During our visit there was a very posh brocante being held in the square surrounding the fountain.

Located right in front of the église of Saint Sulpice it’s quite large water fountain and beautiful square park surrounded. Not many trees around but the number of the benches are sufficient enough to people can rest there.

The Fontaine Saint-Sulpice is a historic fountain located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, near the church of Saint-Sulpice. It is a popular tourist destination and is known for its beautiful neoclassical design. The fountain was built in the 18th century and features four allegorical statues representing the Seine, the Loire, the Rhone, and the Garonne, the four major rivers in France.

The Church and fountain are right in the middle of everything if you are staying in our favorite area in Paris. I've never been here in high tourist season, so for me, it's a quiet place with seating, and a beautiful fountain. It's everything you want Paris to be.
