We ended up here after our Airbnb place fell through at the last minute. We chose the hotel due to its location to where we were meant to be staying, just off La Comedie. This is a very basic hotel as it's a star hotel. The room was a decent size for 3 people. Beds are a little hard but manageable to get a good night's sleep. Walls are a little thin but thankfully the mating season of next door only happened for one night. The hotel manager was friendly but his wife was not so much. They occupy the room opposite reception where they have dogs and there is a strong smell of the dogs in the reception/stairwell. A little pricey for what you get but as we were pretty desperate we ended up here and can't complain too much.
This is a modest hotel in a charming building with very friendly service. It was a budget choice but our room was quite large with two double beds and quiet despite the central location near the Opera. Don't expect modern plush anonymity but do expect systems that work and all the basics you need in a hotel. Our host was charming and helpful. He was happy to tell us the history of the building which is interesting. We had a very pleasant two days.
Looked good on trip adviser but this hotel was of a poor standard. The check in and welcome were good but as we went up the stairs to our room the smell was a bit off-putting. I think this came from the stair carpet which was well used. ||||The room itself was very small and the en-suite tiny. The shower was surrounded by a curtain that trailed on to the shower try and the door was a plastic folding screen.||||During our time there we never saw another guest.||||The location is fairly central close to the main station and the main square.
From the bottom of my heart I'm thanking the owners of this hotel. Apparently it's been going down many generations in this family and since they are caring so much for the customers I feel obligated to share my words about the amazing stay we had. Read more about why it was good below.||||The price is alright, the location is even better, but the service they provided was beyond my expectations. The day we were going home it was raining the whole day, and we thought about paying for a day-room, but they let us use the breakfast hall to relax for several hours and feel as comfortable as home. The owners lives there so it feels like a home in many ways.||||Thank you for being so kind to us through everything. We will come again!
The moment you check-in you know if your comfortable or no and that was the case at Hotel Nova, lovely family run hotel, we did not know that there wasn't an elevator but the staircase was beautiful and the owner helped me with the bag (need that kind of help when your travelling with family). Montpellier is great and a pleasant surprise as to how nice the city is. Recommend all guests coming to this hotel to not drive hoping the location will get you to the lobby and its better to drive to the Gambetta parking 500 metres away from the hotel.
Chose this hotel for being within walking distance from the train station. Is located in a quiet street. I was impressed at how organised and to the point the owner was. No small talk, no time wasting, but you still felt welcome and cared for. The room was satisfactory and had a pleasant scent, window had double-glazing, there was free wi-fi in the room. The only not up to standard feature was the bathroom, but since we were only staying overnight I wasn't too bothered. I also wasn't too excited about the 'no food in the room' policy - it's understandable, but then I'd have liked to have a place in the lounge where I could have a meal... So we had no choice but to dine in a restaurant and naturally came back with our clothes filled with cigarette smoke stink (that's absolutely horrible about France, smokers everywhere!).||The owner graciously allowed us to leave our bags at the reception on check-out until we left town later in the day.||Overall, I'd say this hotel is a reasonably good choice for an overnight stay if you absolutely have to travel through Montpellier.
We stayed for 2 nights||We got great recommendations for sites and restaurants.||And when our rented car dropped dead in front of the hotel, and we had to wait for 2 hours while blocking the entrance to the neighbors' parking, the hotel manager helped us deal with the angry french tenants. ||We had a great experience.||Do note that although the stare case is beautiful, there is no lift... So take a room in the lower floors if you're not in shape.
The other complimentary reviews on this place brings Tripadvisor into disrepute.||In our one nights experience - ||- carpets filthy & very old|- no air con fan yes|- showers so unclean we had to use flip flops|-the bed covers were so un inviting |that (like another reviewer) we slept on top of the beds|- we landed in late with two kids & though we tried unsuccessfully to find somewhere else we reluctantly slept on first floor|- very rowdy from street/bar till all hours|- had no breakfast so can't comment||In all I would encourage the owner (a nice enough French guy who did give us €20 discount bec he could see we were livid) to either |spend a little & renovate & keep the |place clean or get out of the game. |Running hotels isn't easy & guests |are entitled to comment when things are honestly appalling.|||| |||||-
