A medieval masterpiece. Constructed by Saint Louis, and home to Charles V as a royal residence and treasury, then latterly as a prison housing Denis Diderot, Nicolas Fouquet, the Marquis de Sade and many others. The tablet audio guide is an excellent way of following the history and stories, as well as understanding the building, and beautifully recreating the rooms as they would have been.
This was a great place to visit in Paris (at the end of Metro line 1 and also along the RER A). They provide tablets for audio guides for adults and a version for kids with riddles to solve. The audio/visual guide was well done and it even showed you which direction to walk to continue the tour. There were no lines to get in and it was easy to purchase tickets on site (if you just want to visit the group ds, no ticket required). There is a gift shop with bathrooms. The castle is open on Mondays, which is good since some other sites are closed Mondays.
Incredible castle dating to the 1300s, with a self guided tablet tour. The chapel on-site is also beautiful. Its the tallest defensive tower in Europe. Plus, there were no lines and the surrounding Vincennes area is very nice. Recommended.
This is truly a hidden gem in Paris! If you have the time, be sure to visit the Château de Vincennes. It is gorgeous and will make men feel like knights and women feel like princesses. The charm of this castle is straight out of a storybook, and the gardens are perfect for resting your weary legs with a good book or soaking up the sun. It's a must-see with little to no crowds!
Grand and beautiful. A ticket is required to see the dungeons and enter the church with the castle.
Great visit. Check times to visit chapel as closed for lunch 12-1pm. Can take a picnic and eat in designated areas. Give yourself 2 hours for building and longer if a pm exhibition is available. Ticket 9.50€
A fine visit but I wish that more of the dungeon was accessible, particularly the upper floors would have been nice to see and get a nice vantage point from. Same with the church. All the high up points are sealed off from the public. Missed opportunity if I am asked.
Really only two buildings, neither of which retains many original decorative or even architectural features. Some fairly informative signage helps. Maritime exhibit supposed to close on 23/12 until March but we weren't allowed in on 22/12, so who knows what the real time frame is.
