Camp or boat? Castelnaudary is a great starting point to explore the Canal du Midi and its cluses (locks) all the way up to Toulouse, Carcassonne or the Mediterranean Sea. Bring a cassoulet (a specialty from Castelnaudary) along the way. Le Boat rents boats (no permits needed). Their bases have showers, toilets and WiFi. Sounds like camping on water ;-)

The office itself is well-organized, with a wealth of information available in multiple languages, making it easy for international visitors to navigate. Their helpfulness and enthusiasm for promoting the region made a real difference in our trip, ensuring we made the most of our time in Castelnaudary.
