Exceptional As a graphic designer I was totally absorbed by the great work on show and history of design explored. It was not just the diverse range of works on display but the perfectly measured bespoke building in which they were housed. An outstanding combination of pure visual inspiration. Having come from the uk to visit my wife and I spent many hours here which passed in moments. A very good team looked after us. We will be back.
Dominant Huge Works of Op Art. This place is wonderful. The works shake your perception. I was lucky to share my visit with a school trip and the kids were astonished too. Do not miss it.
Gorgeous museum of an idiosyncratic artist. The large space brings the best in his wonderful art. Easy parking.
Depends greatly on one’s reactions to Vasarely - impressive distinctive influential artist without doubt, with technical mastery and a vision all his own. Yet the immense scale of the many major works displayed here side by side somehow diminishes their impact, calling attention to their similarities rather than to their power if seen on their own. The building itself is cool in both senses, an austere modernist contrast to the late medieval spirit of the Aix town center.
Amazing museum with a most impressive exhibition of Vasarely masterpieces ! A must while in Aix
Stunning location with mind blowing artwork that is so beautiful and ahead of it’s time. Really enjoyed and felt privileged to see that, but unfortunately maintenance of the building inside and outside really left us a bit sad and disappointed. Everything felt outdated and abandoned 20 years ago. Outside is not that bad really but inside… pictures speaks for itself. And on top of that entrance is not cheap at all I think 16 eur regular and 12 for students, which I’m happy to pay but also expect to be cleaned well preserved and not only that but taken care of with love, which here doesn’t feel at all. Anyways I would still recommend for others to visit and hopefully whoever is in charge should start taking his job seriously and fix this foundation like it deserves it.
I don't often leave negative reviews but I was really disappointed in their lack of accessibility for people with strollers. Not only was the wheelchair accessible entrance locked (and apparently impossible to open), but I was also informed that strollers were not allowed in the elevator either. Apparently due to a sensitive new exhibit they are installing, only people with reduced mobility are granted access to the elevator, which does not include people with babies. She told me I was welcome to park my stroller downstairs and carry my baby through the museum. Unfortunately my baby cannot walk yet but is getting rather heavy, so I had to turn around. I'm sad that there was no solution to this problem, such as maybe assisting in carrying the stroller up the stairs, because I think this would have been art that both me and my baby could have appreciated.
Really worth a visit from Aix. Easy to access by bus and a fascinating insight into Op(tical) Art. Also, good views of Mont Ste Victoire and the surrounding countryside. It could do with a decent cafe instead of the Snackerie with a coffee machine and chocolate bar dispenser. Worth it for the art though.
