A large Gothic cathedral sits in the heart of Orléans, marked by a long architectural history and multiple reconstructions over the centuries. The interior is known for its scale, stained glass work, and quiet sense of symmetry, while the exterior stands as a prominent landmark within the old city center. Inside, the space feels open and elongated, with light filtering through tall stained glass windows that draw attention upward. The craftsmanship shows through carved details, statues, and wooden elements spread throughout the cathedral, giving each section its own focal point. The overall atmosphere is calm and reflective, with enough space to move slowly through different chapels and side areas without feeling rushed. I spent most of the visit moving between the main nave and quieter corners, where the scale of the building becomes more noticeable the longer you stay. The stained glass sections stand out especially when the light hits at an angle, shifting the tone of the interior as you move around. There is a steady contrast between the grandeur of the structure and the quieter, more intimate details in the artwork and carvings.
Beautiful architecture. Enjoy a walk around the town. You won't be disappointed. Lots of shops and a Merry go Round. Enjoy sitting in the town square and watch life go by.
Truly one of the beautiful cathedrals I've ever been to, I haven't been back inside Notre Dame since 2006 but even then when I went inside St. Croix D'Orlean, I thought it was even more majestic than the main floor of Notre Dame. This is just my opinion.
One of the biggest cathedrals in France and the oldest. The cathedral is very beautiful from the inside. I visited on Christmas Day and attended to mass. It was a very nice mass.
So much history! Beautiful and finely crafted. Can easily spend an hour reflecting and gazing up at the stain glass windows.
I was particularly interested in the graves of two fellow Scots and a very helpful young man in robes helped me.
Remarkable Gothic cathedral with beautiful stain-glass artwork.
Just grand. Renovated inside a few yrs ago. A jewel of Orleans to be sure to visit. Parking and kids play ground literally next to it but keep your parking ticket with or you won't be able to get back in the elevator to get back to the car underground. (They do not have signage warning you of this. Cathedrale closes,at 7pm.
