We booked the Chateau Grattequina for 3 days before a river cruise on the Garonne River near Bordeaux. The whole experience from check in to check out was 5 stars. The Chateau is stunning and renovated beautifully. Every comfort has been provided and we felt like a cherished guest. I have to give a big shout out to Max, Lucy and Rafael. Max you are an extraordinary concierge and host. Anticipated needs and always exceeded expectations and made some simply amazing appetizers for us. Try the Burrata- best I’ve ever had. Lucy and Rafael welcomed us to a delicious breakfast each morning with a wonderful smile and excellent service. Our room was magnifique and we enjoyed the beautiful terrace overlooking the Garonne River every day. Stephane thank you for being a wonderful host. Nous espérons revenir bientôt. Merci beaucoup.|Thérèse et Ron
Fabulous river view room. Huge bathroom. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Excellent breakfast with hot and cold choices. Extensive grounds and pool. 30 minutes from Bordeaux airport and the vineyards 10 minutes from the park and ride tram stop into Bordeaux. Has several electric car charging points. Highly recommended.
An understated gem approximately 15 km north of Bordeaux, perfectly removed from the urban hustle and bustle, yet only a few minutes’ easy drive from the A10. Peaceful and tranquil, yet quietly attentive to every detail. The setting is beautiful: local agricultural land at one end, the River Garonne at the other, and nestled in between, this beautifully restored château exuding understated charm. Elegant greens and greys grace the common areas, while our room was tastefully decorated in soft peach and grey tones. Although there is no formal restaurant, the foie gras, salads, cheeses and charcuterie provided an entirely satisfying supper for weary travellers, complemented by a thoughtfully curated self-service wine selection. And, delightfully, no beer in sight! A simple yet delicious buffet breakfast was served on the terrace overlooking the river — a wonderfully peaceful way to start the day. We received a warm and helpful welcome from Max on arrival and an equally charming farewell from Noémie on departure. It is rare indeed to find accommodation that gets almost everything exactly right.
We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Chateau Grattequina. the front of house team, Maxime, Lucie, Raphaël et Stéphane, are all charming and cannot do enough for you. We were made to feel very welcome by Lucie on arrival and this continued throughout our stay. It is a perfect location for visiting the wine regions of Medoc and Sainte Maxime along with Bordeaux itself. For an added touch of luxury take the hotel's own speed boat along the Garonne into the historic centre Bordeaux. A great stay!
We stayed there for 4 nights and it was an amazing place. Sooo beautiful, serene, right on the river with green all around, well maintained, perfect service. If you want a Chateau close to Bordeaux or Medoc, then highly recommended.
For 3 nights, we and another couple stayed at Chateau Grattequina in the suites with the stone terraces overlooking the river. It was heavenly. As my travel companion remarked, “After seeing so many chateaux, it’s nice to be staying in one.” The owner even gave us a ride into town on his speed boat!
Stayed one night in a river view room. Room was very spacious with a large bathroom, overlooking the Garonne river and the pool area. Rafael at reception was very helpful and we were able to get into our room sooner than expected. The chateau is small, but has been elegantly renovated. Breakfast (€22 extra per person per day) was delicious including fresh orange juice, fresh fruit salad and egg dishes made to order. Enjoyed swimming in the lovely heated pool and taking a stroll along the banks of the Garonne. Ordered a salad from the hotel’s limited cold food menu for lunch (at €18 per plate quite pricey). The hotel does not have a restaurant, which is a pity as there are nor restaurants nearby. There is free coffee and water dispensed by machines in the breakfast room as well as a limited selection of wines that can be bought from a chilled cabinet. Again, the prices are high.||||While the hotel is lovely, it does not have the feel of a traditional one as it is mostly run as an events venue. There was a wedding breakfast taking place on the day we arrived, although it didn’t really impact us as the venue took place outside and in the adjoining events building. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
We had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. The staff were amazing in every way. The rooms are spacious and clean and have beautiful views of this stunning estate. The pool was incredible. The common areas were plush and elegant and I felt at home. The food was amazing, from the delicious breakfast to the menu items. The wine selections were great, too. It was nice to be out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Bordeaux. It was easy to get Ubers to go out to dinner and join our wine tour group. Don't hesitate to book this. Possibly my favorite part of our France trip. Thank you to all of the staff for making us feel at home.
