Today we visited the Maison Bonaparte, the family home of Napoleon Bonaparte in Ajaccio. Stepping through its doors felt like entering a living chapter of European history. The modest stone façade hides a warm and elegant interior that once housed a family destined to shape the modern world. It was moving to stand in the same rooms where young Napoleon spent his formative years before departing Corsica to pursue his destiny in France—and ultimately, across Europe. The museum beautifully combines preserved original furnishings with meticulous historical displays. I was drawn to the family portraits that reveal the Bonapartes’ ambitions and complex relationships. The ancestral rooms, with their fine Corsican furniture, simple religious icons, and family keepsakes, spoke of both domestic comfort and quiet determination. Napoleon’s cradle, set beneath a soft canopy, was a poignant reminder of his humble beginnings. I especially enjoyed how each floor told a different part of the story—from the Corsican roots of the family to Napoleon’s rise and the dynasty’s later fortunes. The curators have done a remarkable job of evoking both intimacy and grandeur. What I loved most was the atmosphere—still vibrant with history, pride, and the enduring legend of Napoleon himself. Visiting Maison Bonaparte felt less like touring a museum and more like paying respects to a family whose legacy forever changed Europe’s destiny. Highly recommended.

A must visit in Ajaccio! The Maison Bonaparte offers a fascinating glimpse into Napoleon’s early life. Walking through the actual rooms where he was born and grew up feels like stepping back in time. The audio guide is excellent and highly recommended to understand the history of the house and the family. It is well-preserved, informative, and centrally located. Perfect for history buffs!

This significant house, the childhood home of Napoleon Bonaparte, offers a glimpse into the lifestyle, furniture, and daily life of the family. However, the experience could be enhanced and made more educational. Unfortunately, there were no English text provided, and the audio guides were unavailable. As a result, we felt that we didn’t get as much as we had hoped. We would appreciate it if they could incorporate movies or videos that showcase the daily life of the family, their habits, and a brief history of the family tree. This would provide enthusiasts with much more to explore and learn. The ticket was 7 Euros per adult.

If you’re fascinated by history, this is a must-see. It’s amazing to visit the actual house where Napoleon grew up, so much to take in and imagine from that era! But they could have made effort to make it a better experience.

Nice little piece of great European history. Museum dedicated solely to Napoleon's early life, without emphasis on his military career. Well organised and not very crowded. Ten minutes waiting for entrance is to be expected and no liquids allowed inside.

Fascinating glimpse into life in the 1700’s in Corsica and its history involving the British and Italian peoples who colonised the Island from time to time 😉 The audio guide is essential to get the most from your visit as the info panels are only in French. The queue was exceptionally well handled and ensured that the rooms in this house were never overcrowded as they are typical of houses of this period.

The Maison Bonaparte, located at 1 rue Saint-Charles in Ajaccio, is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. Now transformed into a national museum, it retraces the history of the imperial family and its Corsican ties.

Well organized with lots of introduction. Highly recommend to visit, in contrast, you’ll be more satisfy if you lower your expectations. It might be less collection if you’re a collector for seeing. But lots of emotions if you’re interesting in history of a great man :)
