I have nothing bad to say about Hadrians wall as its my happy place. I prefer to do my own thing rather than do designated tours but that's the beauty of this place, options to suit all. Good idea to be a member of Historic England to support and save money. I'm a member of Historic Scotland of which they are affiliated. My favourite sites are Steel Rigg for Sycamore Gap, Chesters, Corbridge, Housesteads and Temple of Mithras but there are many more. Vindolanda is impressive, a more advanced site and it is a private trust so a different entry price/membership applies. You can also head into Newcastle for more but I much prefer the countryside sites. Corbridge town is a fantastic place for a pitstop if you like independent shops and bespoke foodstuffs. An amazing chocolate shop Coffuffle is a must and the local butcher round the corner. Hexham too is a must stop. Whatever you decide you won't be disappointed.

Plenty of space to park. Clean toilets with recycling bins nearby. The staff were friendly. Perfect for dogs they even had treats. Coffee was good. Bacon roll fresh and tasty.

Book on line to get into the Fort. £16 on the door, £12 ish on line. Great visitor's center with history about Hadrians wall, short movie showing the wall in its glory time. Was not paying the prices of visitor's center, got 3 ice creams cheaper than one, just 10 mins away in Carlyle nr the m6 north & south motorways. Felt sorry for the families with a few children, take money if you want a souvenir. Lots of walking, trails to follow. The scenery is fantastic.

A peaceful place to visit with plenty of history to take in. The scenery along the way is beautiful, we unfortunately visited during a very windy period but it was still lovely nonetheless and it’s a great spot for a walk while exploring. You can get a guide from the shop and walk along the full Hadrians wall walkway too. The car park is quite cheap and isn’t a far walk away from the main public trail I wouldn’t recommend paying for the wall itself, as there are plenty of free walkways to explore, but if you’re wanting the full experience including the fortress, I believe a tour is £9 from the community center not far away. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Well worth a visit. The cafe here was lovely too. A massive piece of English heritage.

Excellent video in the visitors center. Very well preserved outer wall and compound that gives you a good feel for the scale and layout of the fort. When you combine this stop with Chester's you get a pretty good grasp of the wall.

We accessed a portion of Hadrian’s Wall from the car park at Steel Rigg. Enjoyed three hours of more of a loop that took us along the wall path above Crag Lough, passing MileCastle 39 and Sycamore Gap along the way. Once you reach the farm house you can loop round and go back through the fields to experience a fantastic view of the crag, gaps and wall. We completed this in a blustery early October so it could only be improved on fairer days. Tremendous experience!

Simply amazing. We started our hike at Housesteads roman fort and hiked to the highest point of Hadrians wall, Winshields Crags, passing several forts, crags, and the sycamore gap along the way. The route out and back was 12km and took approximately 4.5 hours (including rest and lunch breaks). There is quite a lot of elevation on this route (600m if you loop back) but it is well worth the incredible views. The carpark at Housesteads fort was £10 for the day, and there is a mobile cafe, bathrooms, and a water refill station there. The walk starts just behind the fort, then take a left. We started at 9am and it was very quiet!
