Le Mas de Peint (Le Sambuc, 13200 Arles, 4.90.97.20.62) built in 1602 by M Peint, exceeded our expectations. It was a farm with lots of land surrounding it and very, very remote. ||We booked the Junior Suite Elegance-Atelier (539.29€ per day with breakfast). In 1602 our room was an atelier for the “mas” or farmhouse. Our room was well-laid out and had a separate kitchen (with a microwave, stove top and oven!) The living room/bedroom had enough space for a desk and a round table so we both had space to sit at our laptops. At one end there was a fireplace (which we actually used one morning) and a (too low and too uncomfortable) sofa and coffee table. It was not so much as decorated as put together in a homey, farmhouse way. The lighting was awful--the room was dark even during the day.||We had an outside sitting area and the “mas” had a large living room, dining room and kitchen that we could use just next door to our room. Also, just next door to our room, was a large enclosed sunroom where we could also sit. Our toilet was in a separate room that made the bathroom much more functional for us. There was just enough storage space for our one-week stay. Elise, Vincent, Johan and the rest of the staff were personable, professional, helpful and friendly.||The staff personalized our room following our requests, including leaving us fruit and flowers. The main thing we found annoying was the breakfast. Because they were using local produce, we had apple juice (not freshly squeezed), mealy apples, mealy pears, and plums for fruit in the mornings (and they weren’t great either). We bought orange juice and melon at the Épicerie La Reg Aline Salin de Giraud and Audre could use the kitchen to make porridge for us. Even so, we were charged 30€ on days we had our own porridge and 50€ on days we had eggs. That was insulting. We were also charged extra for coffee pods (even though we left many). |Very chintzy. ||The mas had very thick walls (making Internet or the wifi work was a
Le Mas de Peint is a unique and beautiful property. The quality of the materials, furnishings, lighting, and overall design is exceptional, creating the feeling of staying in an elegant private home rather than a traditional hotel. The staff were warm and welcoming throughout our stay, and we especially appreciated Elise’s responsiveness and hospitality. What makes the following few points particularly disappointing is that the property itself has all the ingredients of an exceptional stay. Unfortunately, a handful of operational and guest experience issues prevented it from fully matching the impression created by the setting, design, and reputation of the hotel. The biggest issue was the room temperature. During our stay, outdoor temperatures were around 30°C which is fairly normal in the summertime, and despite confirming with staff that the air conditioning was operating correctly and allowing ample time for cooling, neither of the two rooms we stayed in was able to reach a comfortable sleeping temperature. We were not expecting an ice-cold room, but neither room ever became comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep. The staff were helpful and moved us after the first night, but unfortunately the second room had the same issue. As a result, we did not sleep well on either night. Breakfast was another surprise. While the products (bread, yogurt, meats and cheeses) were good quality, there were no hot options made available to us. More importantly, we did not realize breakfast was charged separately until checkout. At this price point and given the location, we found it surprising that breakfast was not included, particularly given the additional cost relative to what was offered. The hotel’s remote location is also something future guests should keep in mind. During our stay, there was unfortunately no evening food or beverage service available on-site (onsite restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday evenings), and nearby dining options were quite limited. We
What a wonderful place tucked in a beautiful and quiet corner of the Camargue. The setting and service were outstanding and gave us the feel of being welcomed into someone's luxury home. While for most hotels the brochure and website create expectations that are too high, the opposite is true for Mas de Peint. The reality exceeded our already-high expectations. Highly recommended
Everything was perfect about my trip to Le Mas de Peint. The service was impeccable and so hospitable, it was peaceful and relaxing, the property is stunning, the food was always outstanding, and I’ll absolutely be returning. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Make sure to do the horseback riding!
The hotel sells itself as an exclusive country retreat, it is expensive, the most expensive place we stayed and this wasn’t justified. |The room had several issues, and the Reception didn’t deal well with me trying to resolve them, a rather rude young man said “oh again” when I appeared at the desk!|The safe didn’t work, they gave us a key, there was no key hole, I had to go to reception again (see above)and finally the young man went up and sorted it. |The bath/shower was very difficult! As a small person (and not young) it was impossible for me to get in and out safely without help. But my husband also found it extremely awkward and he’s tall! The shower taps were labelled the wrong way round. I worked this out for myself in the end, but Reception almost didn’t believe me, got a very patronising tone. There was no blind/curtain at the window & Reception told me it was impossible to see in. It wasn’t, so eventually they came to close the shutters. |The bedroom was so dimly lit it was difficult to see what was in the suitcase to unpack and to read.|The best things about the hotel was the Jeep tour (which we paid extra for), it was excellent, and the restaurant. Breakfast was fine, and pleasantly served but obviously expensive!
This lovely hotel is part of a working farm which has bulls and horses alongside growing rice and barley. The original farmhouse has been converted into a very comfortable hotel with a swimming pool located in a very tranquil garden space. ||We arrived on a Monday and as the hotel restaurant does not open on Mondays (we were made aware of this when we booked) we brought a picnic supper which we enjoyed on the room’s terrace. There was so much bird life around the hotel it was a joy just sitting there taking it all in.||We stayed for four nights to explore the Camargue. In order to get our bearings and learn a little of the area we had booked a Jeep Safari which was offered by the hotel. We had a most interesting and engaging tour with Richard and learnt lots about the area, the estate and it’s farming activities.||The next day we went off exploring on the hotel’s bikes which was a great way to see the area and wildlife and thankfully the roads did not have too much vehicular traffic on them. ||At our first breakfast we met Axel who was looking after breakfast service. He was very engaging and offered us lots of helpful tips and pointers. He also made a bold claim that the chef was extremely good and we would have an amazing evening meal. Well, he was not wrong. We had three fantastic dinners at the hotel. It is a set menu and there is no choice however, there didn’t need to be a choice. From the first amuse bouche we were blown away with the food. On our first night the chef (sorry I didn’t get your name) came to each table and took the time to chat which we really appreciated. ||All in all a great hotel and hopefully we will return one day.
My husband and I spent two wonderful days at this beautiful property. The hotel (a converted farmhouse) is decorated in a warm, elegant non fussy way. We stayed in two different rooms, each one with comfortable beds, plush linens, towels, bathrobes, and guest amenities. There are lovely grand rooms in the hotel to relax and read many of the table books that are scattered around. Outside there is a gorgeous pool, surrounded by lawns and mature landscaping, huge trees, a small lake, and a large kitchen garden. Our host, Monsieur Bon, the owner of le Mas de Peint, graciously introduced himself to us one evening at dinner. A true personal touch that doesn’t go unappreciated. The front desk staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. We especially enjoyed Vincent, who gave us many good suggestions for exploring the region, and also, was incredibly knowledgeable about the traditions of the bulls and horses. Such a friendly engaging man. All the desk staff were warm and totally accommodating. I must say the heart and soul of this property has to be the food. Chef Juan Ipuz, and his team, simply took our stay to the next level! Originally, we had planned to stay one night but we were so impressed (positively blown away) by Chef’s food, we changed our plans and stayed another night. Chef Juan’s creativity and artistry are amazing. Every dish not only a feast for the eyes, but a feast for the pallet and soul. His kitchen is young, energetic, and quiet. I know quiet is an odd thing to say but, there was a gentleness about his preparation that conveyed itself to the food. Every plate was a perfectly crafted, beautifully plated and totally delicious. The kitchen garden keeps the ingredients incredibly fresh and totally seasonal. Chef also has a great sense of humor with his amuse bouche. One night a tiny “hamburger” was plated which was not only adorable but utterly delicious. The chef is also blessed with his sus chef (whose name I unfortunately have forgotten) and hi
The Junior suite “Elegance” with the outside terrace catered perfectly to our style. A large bedroom with a large terrace to spend most of our time outside. The staff was excellent. The food delicious, comparable to a 1 star Michelin, and at a very reasonable price. If you are looking for a simple and quiet with a feel like home experience accompanied with a staff dedicated to you, that’s the place to pick.
