Come during their Saturday market day where merchants extend out along the square for some local specialities and what not.
Incredible market. For seafood lovers, plenty of options. Great produce. Definitely a Disneyland for anyone who loves food.
As others shared, it is hard to catch the market when the hours are tight...visited on a Monday as part of a day trip to other surrounding areas and this was the last spot. While we were saddened to miss the market, we did appreciate that the public water closet/restrooms were open (off to the side of the market). Small fee to use which you will see an attendant there that will accept payment.
People are so friendly, and we enjoyed our snacks in the market , they prepared everything in front of us and food smells & taste very nice!!!
Hang around carreau des halles in Spring.. so sunny, beautiful, clean, interesting. There are many restaurants and cafes along by the river. I love this place...bayonne is good city with best landscape n weather in Spring.
Honestly speaking, that was disappointing. I visited the market on Monday morning and half of the shops were closed. The ones in Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Biarritz would be much larger and more lively. I hope that’s different on weekends.
Nice market for coffee in the morning. Not much to eat for breakfast, as this is more of a lunch (and dinner) place. Good sight-seeing of local products etc.
Love it . As a tourist well worth a wander. Not big but enjoy the sights and smells. If you have access to cooking facilities then you've access to some splendid raw ingredients! Also the attached cafes are good people watching spots
