What a beautiful cathedral! It took around 300 years to build and you can see the beauty of that work without trying very hard at all! There's so much history for you to find out about just waiting for you! There is a cloisters there but you have to pay a small fee to go in there. If you're in Tours, you must visit here. There is such fine chisel work on the entrance arch, it's a wonder how the mason workers had such patience! From the cathedral, there's a ten minute walk to the old town with such beautiful architecture and old wooden beams too.
What a hidden gem. This place is breathtaking. We were in town to go see the local castles and decided to stroll over and see a church to pass the time. I was definitely taken aback. It was massive and absolutely gorgeous. The interior stain glass, organ, and ceiling height are stunning. Definitely one of the most impressive churches I’ve ever seen.
Amazing architecture. Sunday service created a very special atmosphere. I was really moved. Mary Tudor had a wedding here.
"Breathtaking! Tours Cathedral is a Gothic masterpiece that'll leave you speechless. Stunning architecture, rich history, and passionate guides bring the medieval era to life. Don't miss this treasure of French heritage! A truly uplifting stop for anyone exploring the Loire Valley.
If you appreciate Medieval architecture then you must visit Cathédrale Saint-Gatien when visiting Tours. It has a beautiful Flamboyant Gothic west portail and majestic interiors. It is a feast for the eyes!
Very beautiful cathedral which exceeded our expectations. We loved the combination of modern and older stained glass windows as well as the exterior. You will see some paintings of Saint Martin, but his tomb is not here, you can walk to the Basilica with his tomb in 15 minutes. Saint Martin is the patron saint of Tours and was a bishop here. He preformed multiple miracles and is famous especially in Hungary, where he was born.
The Cathédrale Saint-Gatien exemplifies the architectural and artistic magnificence of the medieval period. The stained glass windows are truly awe-inspiring. Every window unfolds a story from Tours' vibrant history, depicting moments of victory, sorrow, and steadfast faith. The preservation of these windows highlights the craftsmanship of the artisans and underscores the dedication to protecting the cultural heritage enshrined within the cathedral's walls.
A beautiful cathedral which is extremely informative, this includes information on all of the amazing stained glass windows that span the length of the building. You can access the majority of the building and you can spend as long or as little time here as you like. Well worth the visit.
