This review is based on the East Island tour. We booked through our hotel as every other tourist office seem to offer the same thing but they got sidetracked by trying to upsell or encourage you to sit in a Pestana hotel listening to opportunities to buy apartments for a discount off the tour. The leaflet was a bit light on information and that should have been a warning. In summary this is a tour of viewpoints, which for the price for 2 people you could easily hire a car and do it yourself. The “minibus” turned out to be a large coach which spent 1 hour at each end of the day picking up and dropping off at various hotels. Riccardo was very entertaining on the coach with excellent knowledge. However, unlike other tour guides, at each stop he just left us to it which caused some issues with navigation. The wicker factory had closed down, the trout farm was too busy for the coach to stop, the recommended restaurant “O Colmo” was no more than a food conveyor belt (separate review made for that experience), the rum factory would not let us have a taster without the tour guide being present. The viewpoints required a little bit of walking to and from but were very good and Dinato the driver had some skills on the winding roads. Overall a reasonable day out but in comparison to other tours we have been on, it would have been better to be more honest about the details of the trip, set accurate levels of expectation and perhaps skip the restaurant recommendation for information on the wider choices in Santana.

We did a day tour in the summer with Daniella, had a small group of only 4 of us, and she was a wonderful guide. So much knowledge, patience and incredibly kind. The walk itself was lovely, quiet and the views were, of course, stunning

Very disappointing experience with MB Tours. We booked three tours during our stay in Funchal, and throughout there was a clear lack of communication from the company—no information about weather conditions or what to realistically expect from the tours. The worst experience was on the third tour (West Coast tour). Partway through, we were switched from our original vehicle to another one because other guests had cancelled. The second driver, Sylvia, mainly spoke German and repeatedly forgot to translate explanations into English, which made large parts of the tour pointless for us. After the first stop, it became clear that the tour was not what we had signed up for. I contacted the company immediately, but the response was very nonchalant. I was simply told that we could leave the tour if we wanted. No effort was made to fix the situation, offer an alternative, or put us on the correct tour. We were told the driver could stop wherever they wanted. This is not how a hospitality or tour company should operate. Poor communication, poor organization, and no accountability. I would not recommend MB Tours.

Wonderful West of the Island your yesterday with Carlos. Ultra helpful and knowledgeable, always felt safe and comfortable. Will do the East of the Island your next time we visit. Oh, and MB handled our transfer so efficiently. A joy to be with these guys. Thank you all.

Hi, just back from doing the West Island Tour with the amazing Edalena( hopefully I spelt this right- tour on 14th September!)as our driver and guide. We took in the sky walk many pretty towns and the natural pool at Porto Moniz. Returning back over the centre of Madeira high above the clouds. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, witty and everyone really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend.

The guide didn't count us on the way back from the escursion on a Levadas. 3 of us were left behind. We didn't know how long the group was gone for. We rushed back only to catch the group towards the very end. When confronted, the guide didn't seem to care. Better to hire a car as it will be safer and will wait for you at the end.

We did the Levada do Norte tour. Our guide was Rodriguez who was excellent. The walk is about 7k and is fairly easy if you can walk along a rough narrow path.

Picked up at the airport on time however the car was not road legal, the car was shaking the entire ride specially when turning right. The driver was on the phone the first 15 minutes (while driving) to another colleague. There was papers hiding the dashboard, not well enough because I could still see all the red alarm lights on the car. My door wouldn't fully close so at least I had permanent air conditioning. On the transfer back to the airport, my booking was clearly forgotten. I called them 15 minutes after they were supposed to pick me up, gave my details and the response was 'your booking is TODAY??'. Eventually they got me a taxi to the airport but told me the driver just got a bit of traffic (absolute lie). The taxi ride was much more comfortable but I just wish the company had been honest that they messed up my booking and not lie to me. Overall a nightmare.
