Such tasty sandwiches!!! And very deliciously looking pastries! Nice place to grab a quick lunch/snack and head to the chateau.
We recently visited Amboise and found ourselves a bit early for a visit to the castle. It was pouring outside and most places were still closed so we popped into this Paul just below the staircase leading to the castle entrance for a quick, budget-friendly, light bite and coffee. This branch has a larger than usual indoor seating area. Service was friendly and quick, expected range of sweet and savoury bakery and related items. Quiche Chevre and Pain du Chocolat tasted as expected, same with our espresso coffees. It's Paul. You know what you are going to get.
Stopped by yesterday for some drinks and pastries. We had some hot chocolate which was much better than the average hot chocolate you get everywhere. The taste is quite pure and the level of chocolate is high. Our daughter chose the flushpuppy which made her so happy as it gave her a blue tongue. There is a wide variety of breads, sweet breads and pastries. We chose to get a few pastries. The lemon tartelette, raspberry tartelette and some blueberry cake. We especially really loved the lemon tartelette of which we ordered a few more to take home which were then packed in a nice box. I would really suggest that one. Employees have served us really friendly and speak very well English. We experienced self service, picking up our own food and bringing back the dirty dishes to the cart. The tables outside were not clean unfortunately and also the toilet was not very well cleaned.
Again the “guy with the beard” (any manager at Paul should read the reviews). I ordered a café latte. The guy looked at me as if I ordered some dish from a Michelín star restaurant. “No milk. 5 minutes”. I also ordered a quiché but since my coffee was going to be delayed I told him to not heat it yet. The “guy with the beard” put it in the oven anyways. Finally, the coffee arrived, lukewarm. After a few minutes, some guy in the kitchen apparently found “milk” and poured it in my cold coffee that now was going to match perfectly with my quiché. Worst service ever in an amazing place. Paul pay attention to costumer service as you do in England. I will never go back thanks to the “guy with the beard”.
The food was OK, tasty salad, but I think that the formula menu is overpriced because not all the desserts and drinks are included. The service is a bit slow and (obviously) not everyone speaks English but the waitress actually was was really nice to make an effort. There were several flies in the main restaurant area, probably due to the hot weather, but stills makes unpleasant.
Honestly, wonderful staff. I’ve been to tons of Paul locations over the year but the staff here went above and beyond and were so sweet. Love their orange juice!!
Food ok. Not bad / Not great. Lots of space to seat. Ve visited on april 2025 - a monday @ 9:30 am. The Place was almost empty, but our male attendant refused to warm a couple of baguette sandwiches, laughing: "those are sandwiches... you are supposed to eat them cold". I dont understand how you can refuse a simple service like throwing a couple of sandwiches in the oven for 2 minutes... Ridiculous...
Fresh breads and delicious tats, quiches etc. Beautiful ancient wall enclosed backyard to sip away the mornings. Lemon tart and salads were highlights for me but everything looks great. Appeared to be a locals favorite as well
