We had a good stay at the Hotel du Bellay. The hotel was easy to find because there were signs throughout the town that lead us in the right direction. The room was clean. It wasn't anything special, but we just came to Blois to see the chateaux, so it wasn't really necessary to have a perfect place to stay. There is a nice bakery right across from the hotel and a grocery store down the street that's open pretty late of French standards. The man at the desk was very nice. He let us check in early and leave our bags until we had to leave. It was really great for the price!
Small, but beautifull hotel in a building from the 15th century. The ambiance of the hotel is great. The rooms are clean and bathrooms are good. Excellent choise if you stay a few days in Blois, which is a nice town with plenty to do around the town.
We were a family of four touring the Loire valley. I booked the hotel after seeing some reviews in Tripadvisor. But learnt that self-experience is the best teacher!! Very narrow stairs , poor bath fittings , noisy location and small rooms.. ||||Having said the above, for the price that you pay you should be mentally prepared to take on these challenges ! So unless you want to spend just a night here , do not make this your destination..
The hotel was okay considering the price of the room and the age of the building (historical building from the 15th century, meaning: small doorframes, small windows, narrow stairs...). Rooms have been renovated, but are not up to modern standards (no wifi in the room, bathroom looked like straight out of the 50s). I would recommend this hotel for backpackers only.||||Positive:||-Friendly & helpful staff||-Quiet & clean room||-Comfortable beds||-Cheap continental breakfast||-We (3 people) booked a triple room and got a room with two double beds that was big enough for four people||||Negative:||-Bathroom very small and outdated||-Small doorframes, we had to be careful not to hit our head||-Difficult to carry suitcases up the narrow stairs||-No wifi in the room||-Parking is only possible a few streets away from the hotel and as the hotel is on a one-lane street you can’t stop the car in front of the hotel to unload luggage without causing a small traffic jam; however, French drivers are very patient ;)
Firstly - Blois is an excellent base for a trip to the Loire chateaux - especially Blois, Amboise, Cheverny, Chaneanceau, Chambord... Hôtel Du Bellay offers simple rooms at excellent price, staff are helpful, the location is good - close to bus stop for the chateaux trip and 8-9 minutes to the train station, also they have free wi fi that can be used on the ground floor, not announced on the web page, which was a good surprise too! The rooms are used but clean
The room was clean, the bed was good, with plenty of pillows, the windows had shutters so we slept until late and well. The bathroom was tiny and it was difficult to exit the shower, because the door was too narrow and the sink was next to the door, but that was not a problem. The toilet bowl had attached a "sanibroyeur", a kind of refuse disposal unit that grinds whatever materials are flushed, it was a bit noisy, but that was not a problem either. The breakfast was basic, but enough for us. ||What I didn't like was what my husband told me after we left, on that morning while he was brushing, someone from the upper floor flushed the toilet and then fecal materials were coming out from the drain of our shower. My husband was disgusted, he decided not to tell me because I would have been sick.
Cannot believe how many good reviews this hotel has ! We booked it on the reviews. Room was tiny (not a problem for us but could be one for certain people as no room at all) and disgusting !! I read the hotel was dusty, but that is not dust (which i can happily live with), it's purely disgusting !||The bed was also from the 15th century, everything was without the charm of it !||They might do some refurbishment but avoid the room on the top floor. I know it's cheap and my boyfriend and I are really easy to please but that is not acceptable, even for that price. I have seen youth hostels cleaner and better than that. ||Management is not acceptable, not even a smile, and he marked us as no show so booking.com could charge us again, he blamed it on the receptionist from the night before, but it was HIM, the same one. NEVER AGAIN
Only stayed in Blois for the night and I would recommend this place to anyone going there. The decor of the rooms is a bit weird, and the communal shower I imagine would be irritating if you're there for more than a night. Aside from that it was a nice, peaceful stay. I'd recommend it.
