Gets very busy very fast during summer. River is cool but bearable. Toilets are available a bit further up before the parking lot and there are life guards 😊
What an amazing experience! We went in winter so we couldn’t swim or do any activities but I think in summer it is magical. The bridge offers beautiful views of the Hérault Gorges. I will be going back.
It's a stones floor, so bring something comfortable to relax on. They hire out canoes here, and that's fun. They young man who runs it is very helpful. There are ice creams and snacks at the top. There's a big car park.
Lovely bridge and views over Herault's Gorges on the outskirts of Saint-Guilhem's village. Overlooking as well the "beach" which can be crowdy ... As an entrance to the Hérault' Gorges, at a place called "gouffre noir" which mean black abyss, the old bridge, hanging on the steep banks, spans the river in its most tight point. Considered one of the oldest French medieval bridges, it was listed as World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO under the Chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostela in France. It was built between 1028 and 1031, by the two relatives of Aniane and Gellone, who jealously controlled the two banks of the river. 50 m long, it includes two main semicircular arches and two secondary openings, the gowns, intended to facilitate the flow of waters during flood period.
Beautiful natural place. Well worth the visit
Amazing landscape, with an old Romain bridge and river. You have a small beach and people usually jumps from the bridge into the river
Amazing place to visit and be impressed by. We visited the caves at Clamouse and wandered down to Le Pont du Diable and had a walk around. Don't try to walk down to the beached area on the Hérault river as you can't and it is a massive distance to get down tok it. Park in the Car Park further down the road which costs 5 Euros per car. Nip up to the square in the village of Saint-Jean-de-Fos which is a couple of kilometres up the road for a nice local cooked meal or a drink in one of the two bars there and relax in the peace.
Really nice view. The water has an interesting color, and the stones are impressive. The bridge is a piece of history. You can also take baths during the hot season
