We booked 2 double rooms and stayed two nights at L'Aleandra. The rooms are located in the upper floor of a two floors villa. Four rooms, two of them are nice for couples and two more small rooms. The rooms were comfortable and perfectly cleaned. Denise was very nice and helpful. The breakfast she made was tasty. The view from the villa is marvelous. Great view for resting and writing. Also, the lovely small pool between the trees is heaven. The location is quite good for mountains vacation. It takes about 15 minutes to Menton in a narrow roads and 15 minutes to get to A8 highway. You must be an experienced driver to drive in those narrow and twisted roads. I personally like it very much and enjoyed the view of old France. We liked staying in L'Aleandra.
We had a great stay with a breathtaking view of the mountains and the sea. No fancy stuff considering the breakfast and the lady of the house takes care of any special wishes considering said breakfast like additional eggs (from her own hens) etc.
We would like to thank our host Denise for the really great staying we enjoyed. ||She is a most kindfull lady en this house is very comfortable and stylish. ||And what to say about this area Castellar. Nice hidden place to enjoy walking, bikeriding or just do nothing by the pool or at this terrace with incredible view. ||We can very much advice everybody to stay a couple of nights with this kind lady!
During our short trip in the area of Nice we made a reservation for 3 nights at this Hotel. Well, it's more like a B&B than a hotel but i'm not sure wether they make a difference between it in France. Nevertheless, it was totally worth it. Denise, is a warmhearted woman who likes to spoil her guests. The room was nothing extrodinary or fancy, but it was tidy and i loved the fact that we had a private bathroom with a bath and a shower! The breakfast was luckily not just a continental french breakfast (cause i'll starve to death with regular french breakfast), but she had arranged some different breads every day, with classic french marmelade and every day we got home-baked sweets (tart tartin, baked apple and chocolate banana pie). It's a sweet breakfast however, so if you like savoury breakfasts you probably are hungry quite fast.||||Denise is also, as most french people, not the best in english but with my small french vocabulary we managed quite good.||||I'd definitely would reccomend this "hotel".
We stopped over in Castellar during our walking holiday starting in La Brigue and ending in Menton. Castellar itself is a quaint little town just outside of Menton and truly is magical, well worth a visit. We wish our stay with Mme Raymond could have been longer! She is clearly an extremely house proud lady. Rooms were immaculately clean and tastefully designed with a variety of complimentary toiletries as well as different types of teas and coffees. The views over to Menton and the Med coast from her house were truly magnificent Breakfast was lovely with assorted fresh pastries, jams and juices. My only regret is that we did not stay longer. We certainly plan to come here again to this beautiful part of France and meet this wonderful lady again.
Spent 1 night here as a couple in June during a motorbike trip in the French Alps. Nice hotel and nice people. Good breakfast with a lot of variety. Had a quiet night. I recommend it for motorbikers because of the private parking and wonderful region. A lot of restaurants in the center of Barcalonnette were closed during our stay.
Fantastic place and hospitality
