This is a beautiful old castle up on a high mountain with an amazing view there is plenty of free parking and two restaurants. Inside you discover a lot of history while being lead through the castle. It takes about 2h to check out everything. There are many stairs to climb and quite a distance to walk so you should be in Relatively good condition.

Very nice castle showcasing the shared German-French history of the Alsace region. The castle is very beautiful and has amazing views. The tour is very well defined and the information presented is enough for non-guided touring of the castle. However, having the defined track to follow leaves no opportunity to freely explore all rooms and courtyards of the castle.

★★★★★ Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg was one of the highlights of my trip through Alsace. My biggest recommendation is to arrive as early as possible. Not only will you avoid the crowds, but you’ll also have a much easier time finding parking closer to the entrance. If you arrive later in the day, you may find yourself parking farther down the hill and hiking up to the castle. An early arrival also means cooler temperatures during the warmer months and far better opportunities for photography before tour groups fill the courtyards and walkways. The castle itself is fascinating. Before visiting, I recommend spending some time reading about its history. Originally a medieval fortress, the castle eventually fell into ruin before being restored in the early 1900s under German Emperor Wilhelm II. What makes the restoration especially interesting is that it was not intended to be a perfect archaeological reconstruction. Instead, some features were emphasized or interpreted to showcase German medieval heritage and imperial ideals of the time. While historians may debate certain details, the result is an incredibly impressive castle that remains very close to what visitors imagine a powerful medieval fortress would have looked like. The views from the castle are absolutely spectacular. On a clear day, you can see across the Alsace plain and appreciate why this location was chosen centuries ago. The elevated position provided both strategic defensive advantages and commanding visibility over important routes through the region. As you walk through the castle, try to imagine yourself as an invading force approaching from below. You’ll gain a much deeper appreciation for the design of the fortress. Each gate, courtyard, wall, and defensive position was carefully planned to slow attackers and force them through increasingly difficult obstacles. Understanding the military and defensive logic behind the architecture makes the experience even more impressive. Whether you’re inte

Great history and experience. Collosal amount of work went into restoring the site. Well worth the trip for the views, sunday lunch from many of the awesome local restaurants in the Oschwiller town down hill from the castle. But make reservations for your lunch. Gets busy.

Definitely worth a stop. Expected to just drive there and see the outside but ended up completing the tour for like 12€ and spent an hour or two walking through the castle.

Grrat experience, this castle is one of the few fully renovated in the whole of Alsace. Offers you an insight to the life in the middle ages. Choose a good day to go with clear weather to make the most of the views over the Black Forest, the Alps and the Rest of the Vosges. If you read all signs ect, and take your time you can easely spend an hour or 2 visiting. Recomend lunchtime visit to get less people. There is a picnic spot at the end of the castle visit so be patient during it and take in every little detail!

Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is one of the most complete castle I've ever visited in Germany, not just the 900 years of history it carries, also the fact that it's a German castle in France. You'll learn lots of things, to me, one of the most special thing here is how they demonstrate all those medieval period armour and swords ⚔️, you realize that how the knights fought back to hundreds years ago. Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is also a perfect spot to enjoy the view of the territory of kingdom used to be.
