This place was one of my favourite places in all of France on this grand 2,000 mile road trip. The red rock gives a beautiful desert like feel and just an hour away you got the French Alpes covered in beautiful snow! The drive here is roughly 2 hours from any big towns so be sure you have plenty of fuel. For those who don’t like heights also beware the main road here does carve out along a lot of hairpin bends with hundred foot gorges along side. It’s not busy thankfully so you don’t need to rush and from the experience we had most of the French drivers seemed sensible and polite about our driving speed, and simply pulled in to let people pass safely. The place is mind blowing and itll be a place to remember for a life time!!! Beware the only way to get here as far as I can tell is car. No indication of buses? And there are no trains here either. Also if your worried about what car you got I did this road in my 21 year old Toyota Prius designed for city use and it did perfectly fine here so no you won’t need a fancy truck for this road unless you plan to come here in winter snow.
The view was amazing—truly a treat for the eyes. It was especially lovely to watch the red mountains while traveling by car. Their vibrant colors and stunning formations made the journey unforgettable.
I drove to Gorges de Daluis from Nice on a Sunday at 6 a.m. The road was very empty. I got a little worried when I saw some sizable rocks on the left side of the road, likely from a recent fall. Even though there are nets in place, fallen rocks can still reach the road, so be careful. The scenery was spectacular, offering views similar to those found in Colorado's Rocky Mountains and the Grand Canyon, all in one place. Texas Aggies
Wow, just wow. One of the most scenic spots ever. Fantastic views around every corner. Particularly good spot to visit if travelling on motorbikes.
Remarkable and unique gorges carved by the Var River through wine-red rocks known as the "Nice's Colorado" for their 300-meter drops ... This site's characteristic red rocks are called pelites and date back to the Permian period. Over 250 million years ago, volcanic ash and fine sediments were deposited in shallow basins and then oxidized, resulting in the distinctive hue that has earned the site the nickname "Niçois Colorado." The Var River subsequently carved through these layers to a depth of over 900 meters, forming the gorges. There are two marked trails, the Clue d'Amen circuit about 4h30 ride and the Point Sublime circuit around 1h30 allow you to discover this amazing site.
Spectacular scenery, feels like the Grand Canyon or the gorges of Utah. Worth a visit, beautiful hiking. Bring a picnic, no services, just nature.
A very beautiful place to visit by car. There are trekking paths that you can take which are evidently quite scenic with the red rock formation and the river. There are around 4-5 picnic spots to stop the car and have a nice scenic lunch with a view of the waterfall or the red rocks.
Amazing view. The roads are dangerous, so drive slowly.
