La Moutarderie Fallot in Beaune was one of our favorite experiences in Burgundy. We took both tours, and each one was truly interesting, informative, and thoughtfully done. What stood out most was how strongly we felt that this is a family-run business in the best sense of the phrase. Everyone we interacted with was welcoming, knowledgeable, and clearly proud of what they do and of the traditions they are preserving. The passion came through not as a performance, but as something deeply lived. Questions were encouraged, answers were generous, and the atmosphere felt warm and authentic throughout. The mustard tasting bar was fantastic and incredibly well run. The staff were patient, helpful, and genuinely interested in guiding us toward the mustards that best matched our tastes and how we cook at home. It made choosing what to bring back both fun and confidence-building, rather than overwhelming. We truly can’t say enough good things about this experience. Educational, delicious, and human in the best way. An absolute must-visit in Beaune.
We booked the tour online, which included both an informational tour and a mustard-making workshop. The tour itself was informative, with videos and a self-guided audio section in their small display area. The mustard-making workshop, however, was a lot simpler than expecte. We just mashed some seeds with vinegar, so it wasn’t quite what I thought it would be. The highlight was definitely the tasting at the end. We were able to sample at least two dozen different mustards, and the staff were amazing, friendly, enthusiastic, and very encouraging about trying as many varieties as we wanted. Even though the tasting area could get a little crowded, it flowed smoothly, and you don’t actually need to take the tour to enjoy the tasting (it’s free to try). Overall, the workshop itself felt a bit underwhelming, but the tour and especially the tasting experience made it worthwhile. The staff really made the visit a positive one.
Great experience. Very helpful and English fluent staff. The tour is great and interactive. You make a small quantity of mustard and also do a tasting. They also have a tasting bar so you can experience your mustard before buying it. Numerous flavours available.
An excellent experience! The staff is incredibly helpful and fluent in English. The tour is engaging and interactive—you even get to make a small batch of mustard yourself and enjoy a tasting session. There’s also a tasting bar, allowing you to sample different mustard flavors before deciding which to buy. With so many unique varieties available, it’s a must-visit!
During a weekend trip with friends, we decided to discover this mustard manufacturer that it has been in fact, a family business for generations. The visit was excellent, our guide was very friendly and educational. There’s the possibility to do the visit in multiple languages such as French, English and German. By the end of the visit you can buy the incredible and delicious mustards you got to try. I totally recommend, a must do if you visit Beaune!
One of the best experiences you can have in Beaune! We were able to schedule a tour and visit the same day, and we were so grateful! Our tour guide, Oliver, was fantastic! He was fun and knowledgeable and had so much to share. A great place to try something local to Beaune and a place where it is evident that they take pride in everything they do. It has been a highlight of our trip to France so far. A must visit!
We went for a guided visit with our children and they enjoyed a lot. Manuela was a super guide, thank you very much and well done for the wonderful work you do at La Moutarderie Fallot!
What an incredible place to visit if you're interested in learning more about the history of mustard. They offer two types of interactive visits. The "Découvertes" introduces you to the world of mustard, ancient techniques and let's you make your own mustard, while the "Sensations Fortes" walks you through the modern process of how mustard is made. They are offered in French and English, but reservations need to be made on their website beforehand. I participated in the "Découvertes" guided tour and loved how interactive it was. We tasted mustard seeds, ground our own mustard, received audioguides to explore parts of a museum, tasted four kinds of mustard, and watched a few cooking videos on how mustard is used by French chefs. They also gave us 2 25g jars to take home. Overall, such a great experience. Then the store itself has its own free tastings and one can spend lots of time browsing the wide selection of mustards. They have small 1€ 25g jars, 2-3€ 100g jars (perfect for carry on bags), and also 250g jars. There is also wine, olive oil, and soap sold at the store too! As one of the last family-run moutarderies left in France, it's exciting to have such a close-up experience of this amazing process. And there are plenty of trains that can take you to the town of Beaune from Dijon in 20 minutes!
