A lovely place to stop in for lunch. Very friendly staff. We were seated in the leafy terrace area which is unfortunately a bit noisy but still comfortable. Drinks arrived quickly and our order was taken and delivered just as fast. Everything was very tasty. The haddock was delicious and the burger was very good. Dessert was chocolatey delish! The restaurant itself is gorgeous.
Live piano music and a singer. One of if not the best profiterole I have ever tasted in my life. The food is excellent and the waiters even though not all of them speak English, very helpful. We had to change the reservation to the next day but were very accommodating. The interior is Beautiful, the wine list was quite complete and the menu can satisfy even the most peculiar tastebuds. Highly recommend!
Legendary restaurant and café. I adore Hemingway and his Moveable feast and Sun also rises. I've read Moveable feast at least ten times, so for me was sacred experience to visit one of the favorite cafes of Hemingway in Paris. Close to it are the others cafes described in the book.
I had never heard of this restaurant before, but I stumbled upon it on my way back from the Catacombs. Prices looked high but it was my last night in Paris so I decided to go for it. I sat inside and the dining room is simply gorgeous, I haven't been anywhere more quintessentially Parisian. There is an enclosed terrace of sorts with windows on the walls and ceiling, and a comfy couch lining one wall where I sat. My waiter unfortunately didn't speak English, but I did get an English menu and I was able to fumvle my way through ordering. I had the boiled eggs with mayonnaise, sautéed duck strips, and dame blanche, with a glass of chardonnay and a bottle of mineral water. The eggs I found to be under seasoned, although I've never had this dish before. The duck was delicious! I don't think it's a traditional French preparation, more like an Asian stir-fry. The dame blanche was also delicious, although sadly I didn't have room to finish it. Total for one person was 70.50 euros; I'm no food critic but in my opinion you can get similar quality food for a lot cheaper elsewhere in Paris. My waiter was very attentive, even stopping by the table multiple times to top off my water. Never had service like that in Paris. It was welcome but a bit jarring. The pianist was definitely the highlight for me, he started playing just after I got there and stayed on the keys throughout my meal. Definitely spot on for the ambiance. Towards the end of the meal I finally noticed the table cover with signatures from all the famous guests they've had, then I read these reviews and found out Hemingway, Picasso, and many more frequented this place. So cool! Those guys definitely had taste. I would definitely come back, maybe not for dinner but drinks.
The ambiance is super nice and classy There is a pianist all the time while sitting, and the music is great We tried the steak with pepper sauce and it was fine, but did not really stand out.We also tried the chicken cesar salad that was good
Stepping into La Closerie des Lilas feels timeless. Like walking back in time, yet polished as if freshly created. Every detail is cared for, from the terrace alive with plants to the food and drink that carry quiet perfection. The atmosphere is warm, the service attentive, and the lunch unforgettable. My wife enjoyed champagne, I savored a scotch, and together with our beautiful daughter we shared a moment that felt eternal. It makes you feel privileged to enjoy something you don’t want to forget. An experience etched into memory, where hospitality itself becomes a kind of art. To those that keep this place alive, and the staff that was so wonderful, a big thank you!
I would rate this restaurant 10,000 out of 10. The staff are incredibly friendly, warm, and welcoming — it feels like you’ve known them forever. The food is absolutely delicious, made with fresh ingredients, and their homemade ice cream… wow, just unforgettable! To top it all off, everything is accompanied by wonderful live music. We will definitely be coming back!
It's worth knowing that this iconic Paris institution features a "brasserie" and a "restaurant." Reservations are advised for the latter but not the former. Neither is cheap nor crazy expensive, and both are fine options. The place sits by itself along Boulevard Montparnasse about 10 minutes' walk from a quintet of other fine, historic dining spots
